A great place in Marghera, a club with the art direction by Daniele Reale (Wah Wah Club). You'll find live music, DJ sets, art performances and themed parties strictly "out of the ordinary," and most with free entry.
Formerly the Porto de Mar which was an exclusive gay club, the Glitter is open to lesbians, transgenders and heterosexuals as well. From go-go boys to drag nights and DJs rocking the dance floor, this place is a must visit for those who only want to dance. Groove way into the morning at this late night destination where only dancing counts.
Formerly a factory, Centro Sociale Rivolta turned into a very basic club. Colorful murals now cover all the walls. On weekends, Cso Rivolta hosts live gigs or DJs from different countries who play music ranging from house to techno or electronic jazz. It is one of the most popular venues in northeastern Italy: on weekend nights, usually more than 2500 young people gather in the main hall for the concerts. There are also smaller halls where guest musicians and new talents play more experimental music. All concerts are advertised on line in music blogs and with brightly colored stick up posters in the Veneto area. - Maria Frullini
Wah Wah Club is for everyone who believes in working hard but partying even harder. Sweat the night away as you move to pop and rock music played at the club. Special programs are organized especially for teens at this fun club. For some fresh and original music, head to this upbeat place.
This is not your average Venetian hotspot: Dogado Lounge is a modernly designed restaurant, a pizzeria, and a popular music venue and bar, all under one roof! Dogado opens until late and doesn't offer the typical local menu. Grilled meat, a fine selection of wines, and a huge choice of pizzas are its strong points. In the good season, waiters serve dinner on the spacious terrace on the first floor. Otherwise there is enough space inside to either just dine or have an after-dinner drink listening to music and dancing. DJs play an array of styles and sounds depending on the day, but live music also graces late nights.
This bar, close to the station, has DJs and caters mostly for young people and students. The drinks list includes a number of cocktails and wines. It is a great place for an aperitif and the non-alcoholic cocktails and local wines are especially good. The bar organizes themed party nights as well as cabaret shows. The student crowd insures that the place is usually quite busy and it is hard to find a seat on themed or cabaret nights. As well as the aperitifs, snacks, sandwiches and creamed salt cod, the kitchen cooks up several good regional dishes. Prices are average for Venice.
Situated in the lively Campo Santa Margherita, crowded with tourists and students and not far from the Cà Foscari, Cà Rezzonico Universities, and the Galleria dell'Accademia. Franco's bar serves coffee, wine, soft drinks and quick snacks. Frequented mainly by tourists and some students, in summer it is often difficult to find somewhere to sit. For a quick coffee or an Ombra with a bite to eat customers can stand at the bar and indulge in squid salad, rolls, grilled vegetables, sardines, or for a more leisurely meal customers can sit to eat their food and maybe order something a little less regional, for example the bresaola (cured beef) or various cheeses.
Venice never had many foreign restaurants until, in a short space of time, two restaurants specialising in Arab cuisine opened very close to each other. To find them, get off the boat at Cà d'Oro and walk towards the New Foundations. The atmosphere is grand but not pretentious; the clientèle is made up of locals and tourists. Sometimes they have live belly dancing shows and the service is efficient. The cuisine is Arabic; kebabs and cous cous with vegetables, various sauces and yogurt drinks or tea. They dont serve many fried dishes apart from the fagottini con verdure (a type of tortellini with stuffed with vegetables); the kebabs are excellent. It is best however to try a little of everything, and as it goes, the prices are reasonable enough to allow this.
The Venice Jazz Club was born in 2006 after the closing of the Around Midnight Club. The Venice Jazz Club quartet is the group that usually plays here, but sometimes other jazz musicians come here as well. The club has great wine, sometimes hosts art exhibitions and is located between Campo Santa Margherita and the Accademia Bridge.
Located at Campiello del Sansoni, Pizzeria Jazz Club 900 is a pizzeria as well as an interesting Jazz club. The interiors of the place is decorated with pre-owned furniture from old Venetian brothels and the atmosphere here is old fashioned. The kitchen is home to a variety of Venetian-style pizzas served at affordable prices. Enjoy your delectable pizzas in the company of soft jazz and wait for the night to pass by with a loved one. The place is very popular among locals, hence reservations are recommended.
Crowded with young patrons and located close to the Cà Foscari campus of Venice's University, not far from the Galleria dell'Accademia, Piccolo Mondo or 'El Souk' attracts many students. Featuring hippest DJs and open till late, it makes for a good place to dance the night away. As the name suggests, the interior is arabesque, with lots of low lighting. There are theme nights, like, 80s night and Latin American night when the place takes on a new life. The students seem to enjoy whatever is put on. There is no entry fee and it is one of the very few places in Venice where it is possible to dance.
This historic piano bar and restaurant is a short walk from the Gran Teatro La Fenice. It is sophisticated and elegant and its vaguely English atmosphere draws in a nostalgic clientèle in the evenings. During the day it attracts crowds of tourists as a run of the mill restaurant. The cuisine is typically Venetian and includes cicchetti as an antipasto, sardines, hard boiled eggs, grilled vegetables, baby octopus salad. There are also pasta dishes and main courses are mostly based on fish. The desserts are also quite good. In the evening cocktails are served creating a slightly American atmosphere.
