    Henry The 4th

Shakespeare's two-part "Henry IV" is an action-packed historical saga featuring one of the most colorful and hilarious characters in all of drama: the drunken, rotund Sir John Falstaff. Theatre@First's lively production "Henry the 4th" combines both parts into one and turns Sir John to Dame Joan, upending the play's traditional gender roles. The story moves from the slums of London, where King Henry's son Prince Hal embarrasses the royal family by carousing with Falstaff and other vagrants, all the way through to Hal's ascendancy to the throne, and his subsequent rejection of his old life to become the king he was meant to be. Along the way, battles erupt as rebels encroach on Henry IV's kingdom from the north, a father and son reconcile their differences, and Prince Hal comes into his own in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy. "Henry the 4th" has it all -- blood, sweat, tears and through it all, plenty of laughs.
