With little to no radio play to bolster its image, King Crimson has had to rely on memorable albums and intense live shows to build a reputation for itself. The band is widely credited as being one of the forefathers of progressive rock and with technicality, virtuosity and an adherence to abstract instrumentation King Crimson has bypassed the mainstream only to find a dedicated group of fans eager to lap up any of its musical discharge. Though the group was founded in England in 1969, King Crimson has a number incarnations with members from various countries, helping add to the multi-national and extremely diverse sound of the band.

Entering the music scene in 1981 with the group 10,000 Maniacs, Natalie Merchant went on to become a voice for a generation (sorta). Her croon is extremely characteristic and after hearing it people tend to fall in love with her. Though she left the Maniacs in 1993, Merchant has gone on to release a number of solo albums and tour in support of them. Her songs typically center around the soft rock genre and her sorrowful lyrics help to complement the doleful instrumentation quite well.
