Located on the trendy Cavill Avenue, Melbas is a two-story nightclub and bar that caters for those in the mood to party. The lower level cafe-cum-bar is a great gathering area, designed as a meeting place before heading into dance music spectacular. Upstairs is primarily designated to dancing all night long, and it is a rare occasion that the dance floor is empty before the sun edges over the horizon. Standard prices at the fully stocked bar and a few select top shelf spirits are available for those with a heavy wallet.
Dark, smoky and oozing with soul, Bourbon Bar is the essence of rhythm and blues music. You could be forgiven for thinking you had journeyed into the heart of the Big Apple's music scene as the sleekest soul sounds reverberate constantly off the musty walls. The atmosphere is very relaxed and chilled out and this is as much a place to sit and chat, as it is to dance. Not surprisingly, an extensive range of bourbons is available from the very inexpensive to top shelf.
Launched in 2003, Elsewhere is a happening nightclub with an artistic inclination. Spread over two levels, this venue features some of the best live entertainment with gigs, DJ events, dance parties, stand up comedy acts and art exhibitions. The Drink Nightclub is a multi-level club, which is the Gold Coast's answer to Studio 54. The lower levels are restricted to VIPs however, the two-level nightclub on top of the Avenue is by far the most glamorous on the Gold Coast. One level houses an enormous dance floor lit by mirror balls and rotating halogen bulbs. The other houses cages on either side of the floor for extroverted dancers to display their skills.
Neon flashing lights and revolving glitter balls create a vibrant scene at Cocktails and Dreams. A large nightclub by Queensland standards, there is a bounty of room to stand or sit and take in the magnificence of the Gold Coast's bronzed beach guys and girls. The electronic dance music pulses all night and avid dancers will obtain a full workout. Like its neighbors on the Orchid Avenue party strip, Cocktails and Dreams can lighten your wallet quite quickly at the bar, but the music is more important than the liquor!
Dance until dawn and then relax with breakfast on the beach after a big night out at Benson's. Included is a large outdoor area where club-goers can mingle, drink and get to know the locals and visitors alike. The interior dance floor can pack in over a hundred people for some tight-knit dance moves to the latest chart hits. The main bar is huge and provides speedy drink service, no matter how packed the club becomes and standard nightclub prices are supplemented by random bar specials at the whim of the duty manager.
Interested in visiting the Wild Wild West on the beach? Club Shooters is in the center of the Gold Coast party strip on Orchid Avenue. The carved oak interior, from the walls and bar areas right down to the stools, reiterates the western-style theme of Shooter's. The latest commercial dance music plays all weekend and if that is not your scene, cruise downstairs and relax to pop or rock sounds on one of many extraordinarily comfortable leather couches. With five bars, it is never a long wait for drink.
Hard core dance fans flock to Sin City Nightclub for non-stop, pulsating, electronic dance music all weekend. Glitter balls, flickering strobe lights and fantastic laser light shows electrify Sin City's dance floor. Some of Australia's best dance DJs turn the tables to their own mixes and two hundred beats per minute is a stroll in the park for them. Whilst the bar facilities are adequate, the purpose is to dance, not to drink, so water is the drink of choice for many of the regulars.
The Meeting Place is a refreshing step down in pace. Dim, mellow-lighting gives it a very soft glow, which makes it even more inviting. Unlike its neighbor, the music taste is more attuned to the commercial charts. The dance floor is small, but the emphasis is clearly more on conversation. Plenty of beers, cocktails and shooters are available and comfortable seating makes the Meeting Place a great venue to get the night started. Call ahead for timings.
