»Young The Giant

March 01, 2015 7:30 PM

Previously known as The Jakes, Young the Giant is a five-piece alternative rock band from Irvine, CA. The band started as a more melodic response to its local music scene, which drummer Francois Comtois described as consisting of, “a lot of hardcore bands.” The band's urge to try something different paid off, as its music takes on a blend of relaxing and explosive beats and gorgeous guitar riffs, tied together with lead singer Sameer Gadhia’s definitive, raspy voice. The band's breakthrough single, “My Body,” peaked at number five on the Billboard Alternative Songs Chart. With only one self-titled studio album, Young the Giant has been pegged by music legend Morrissey as one of his favorite new bands.

March 04, 2015 8:00 PM

Lotus is a band that isn't afraid to experiment with its sound. The five-piece outfit formed in 1999 when students of Goshen College in Indiana decided to band together and create a style of music with no clear sonic direction. The result? A forward thinking style of genre breaking music that pulls heavily from the rock, electronic and jazz worlds. Since its inception, Lotus has dedicated itself to an ardent touringschedule, helping it become well-known for its jam-heavy live performances.

»Bret Michaels

March 14, 2015 8:00 PM

Before he became an infamous reality television star, Bret Michaels was best known as the lead vocalist of Poison. The glam metal outfit found success after its 1986 debut album, Look What the Cat Dragged In, and Michaels would go on to write several of his most recognizable songs with Poison, including the 1988 power ballad "Every Rose has Its Thorn." Though Poison gained fame as one of the biggest glam rock bands of the 1980s and 1990s, Michaels split off from the band and began to pursue a solo career. He released his debut solo album A Letter from Death Row, the soundtrack for a 1998 movie of the same name that Michaels both directed and stared in, and spent the rest of the decade releasing country rock material. His solo career is largely overshadowed by his participation in the reality dating show Rock of Love with Bret Michaels, which aired in 2007 and continued for three seasons, leading the generation that missed his stint as a rock star to view him as a temporary reality television personality. Michaels continues to record and release new music, including his 2012 album, Get Your Rock On.
