One hundred years ago, American teachers established the English-speaking public school system of the Philippines. Now, in a striking turnabout, American schools are recruiting Filipino teachers. The Learning is the story of four Filipina women who reluctantly leave their families and schools to teach in Baltimore. With their increased salaries, they hope to transform their families lives back in their impoverished country. But the women also bring idealistic visions of the teachers craft and of life in America, which soon collide with Baltimores tough realities.  While I was born and raised in the Philippines, Ive lived my entire adult life in the U.S.  Im both an insider and an outsider, which allows me to have a distinct point of view, says filmmaker Ramona Diaz. We will honor wait list and walk-in attendees for available seats starting 10 min after the scheduled start time. This History Channel documentary ventures back 150 years into the tight-knit communities that exist in the Chinatown that can be found in nearly every major North American city to tell the story of the Chinese-American experience. Find out why just two of China's many provinces contributed the vast majority of 19th century immigrants and learn about the prejudice and hatred they had to overcome in their new land. Examine the many enigmas that surround the Chinese in America to this day: the contrast between their secretive ways and the openness of American society, the violence of Chinese gangs and the success of individual entrepreneurs, and their steadfast adherence to ancient traditions and customs even as new opportunities are embraced and exploited.
