    Sports Illustrated named Fox Creek the #1 practice facility in the Southeast. Just a short drive (with a car, not a club) up Interstate 75 from the city, Fox Creek also boasts an executive golf course. Mostly par-3s with a few par-4s, this course is a great place to play if time is a factor or you're a beginner. The practice area offers a large driving range, as well as an immaculately maintained putting green. Fox Creek is the perfect place to hone one's golf skills.

    »White Water Atlanta

    The South's largest water park is located about 20 minutes from downtown in suburban Cobb County, and is open weekends during May, then daily from June through August. In addition to water slides, wading pools, and all types of aquatic rides, the park offers Friday night "Dive-In Movies," where guests watch first-run movies from inner tubes in the wave pool. Admission is calculated by height. This charge includes free admission to Six Flags' American Adventures park next door.

    Explore four miles of hiking trails at East Palisades. It's located in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, so there's plenty to see and do by the river.     Ice skating may not be the South's most widespread diversion, but this comfortable facility in nearby Marietta draws pretty good crowds nonetheless. The indoor rink has been in business locally for over 20 years and offers daily open skates and free lessons every day of the week. Several youth hockey teams also practice here regularly, so call ahead to make sure the ice is open. Check website for weekly schedule and hockey info.

    »Silver Comet Trail

    Years ago, the Silver Comet Rail Line took passengers back and forth between Atlanta and Birmingham, Alabama. Now, however, the abandoned line has carried passengers only on foot or on bicycle. This paved trail runs for 13 miles (21 kilometers) through Cobb County and continues into Paulding and Polk Counties. When completed, the trail will extend the entire length of the Atlanta-Birmingham line. Pets are allowed if leashed. You can access this scenic trail at multiple locations; just call for directions.

    »Polo Club of Atlanta

    Atlanta is a genteel town steeped in tradition, and few local traditions can rival that of the Polo Club of Atlanta. While membership is expensive and somewhat exclusive, most Atlantans (and visitors) are satisfied to simply enjoy the refined spectacle of competitive matches, hosted every Sunday from June through October. Dress is casual and picnics are welcomed. Because of extreme summer heat, no matches are scheduled during the month of August.
