We've all heard sad, riches to rags tales of forgotten celebrities, this one's, however, the story of Elektro, the robot. A much celebrated robot, Elektro was built in 1939 by Westinghouse Electric Corporation. The cheeky humanoid, apart from following voice command and doing the usual walk-talk bit, had quite a sense of humor; he called people “toots” and smoked quite a bit (on command, of course). Eventually, newer innovations took over, rendering our beloved Elektro a little more amusing than a mere doll. He was dismantled and forgotten for years until his body showed up at a barn. Today, Elektro amuses the visitors at the Mansfield Memorial Museum as one of the prime exhibits in their collection. Established in 1889, this museum located in Mansfield, OH, also displays an eclectic taxidermy collection featuring weird, anthropomorphic beasts.
