»Ramsey Lewis & Philip Bailey (Of Earth Wind & Fire)

    October 23, 2014 7:30 PM

Prolific jazz composer and pianist Ramsey Lewis got his start in the Chicago music scene with his band the Ramsey Lewis Trio. While his band mates would go on to pursue their own projects, most notably Maurice White, who formed Earth, Wind & Fire in 1970, Lewis was already a widely sought after pianist by 1966 with chart-topping tunes such as "The In Crowd" and the Grammy Award-winning album Wade in the Water. In addition to his extensive catalog, he has contributed to the jazz scene in several different ways including hosting the 13-episode Legends of Jazz television series, serving as artistic director of the jazz portion of Illinois's Ravinia Festival and hosting radio programs such as Legends of Jazz and the Ramsey Lewis Morning Show.

    »John Prine

    October 31, 2014 8:00 PM

Raised in rural Illinois on acoustic folk and rockabilly, John Prine became one of the more respected country singer/songwriters to have emerged during the 1970s. Though never obtaining tremendous commercial success, several notable musicians enjoy Prine's simple, yet intelligent style of songs - Kris Kristofferson once said that Prine wrote songs so well that "we'll have to break his thumbs." Many musicians have covered his songs, including Bette Midler as well as Joan Baez, and Prine has recorded several duets with other country music stars to much acclaim.

    »Richard Marx

    November 08, 2014 8:00 PM

With a string of smash hit singles, including "Right Here Waiting" and "Hazard," Richard Marx became one of the most successful American pop singers in the 1980s and early 1990s. The adult contemporary singer specializes in both rock-minded R&B songwriting and emotional balladry, the latter of which helped cement his reputation as a fixture on radio station playlists throughout the US. Marx grew up in Illinois, where at 17, a demo of his found its way to Lionel Richie, who prompted the singer to move to Los Angeles. Richie's instincts were right, as Marx would go on to become the first solo artist to have his first seven singles all land in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top 100 Singles Chart. He continues to tour and record fairly regularly, and has also collaborated with a number or prominent artists such as Keith Urban and Josh Groban.
