An old train station that was used only for freight for many decades, the Gare de Jean Macé has been undergoing a makeover and just recently reopened its doors to the public. The departures and arrivals area at the Perrache and Part-Dieu stations will remain unchanged by this new station, but many regional trains will now make this new stop which will greatly help to relieve the two main stations. The Gare de Jean Macé is located on the left side of the Rhône river in the southern part of the city. From there, it's only a few metro or tramway stops to Saxe Gambetta, Gerland or Grange Blanche.

Rhône Accueil is an organization run by volunteers, which ,as its name implies, welcomes people who have just arrived in Lyon of its surrounding area. It is not easy to get to know the town, especially if you're going to live here for the first time. This association is here to help you feel your feet, and to offer advice if you are planning to move. It is not, strictly speaking, a tourist office, even if you can find information here on the heritage of Lyon. The association aims to make people aware of the range of services available: administrative, social, accommodation and, of course, leisure. In short, a kind of local service which, through its knowledge of the town and its facilities, will roll out the red carpet for you. Call for more details.
