Exactly the kind of theater organization that should be in every community, the Lubbock Community Theatre (LCT) has been around in Lubbock since the 1940s and continues to provide live community theater. This organization allows ordinary citizens to take on new roles and experiences perhaps far different from their everyday lives. Each year, around 7 pieces are produced as well as 9 performances by individuals and provide year-round enrichment to the community. The Theatre is also very active with young ones, with the “Fairie Tale Tea Party” and a children's musical theater program. LCT is also partly responsible for Shakespeare in the Park during the summers. Aspiring playwrights should also take note that LCT has performed several plays by local authors. MotherLand Amphitheater is a huge event space that serves as an ideal location for concerts, gigs, live acts and open-air festivals. Committed to preserving and promoting the art of theater in Lubbock, C.A.T.S. Playhouse (which stands for "Children and Adults Theatrical Studios") serves up fun and enthusiastic plays all year round. The Playhouse produces a range of live performances including "comedies, dramas, children's theatre, musicals, improvisation, and related cultural productions." Many of the shows are not only acted and directed by local talent, but also written by playwrights and other writers in the area.
Interested in learning all about the wide world and how it works? Then the Science Spectrum & OMNI Theater is the place to discover all of this. Here, there is a science museum showing exhibits on NASA rockets including space suits, or take a journey down a Texan river and see all the fabulous creatures who inhabit the water. When you are done exploring, the OMNI Theater with its 58-foot (18-meter) screen helps you feel like you are immersed in the picture.
Located across the Texas Avenue, the Texas Republic is a modern venue. Live music concerts and other entertaining gigs are a regular feature here. Opened in August 2009 by local Mosaic artist and photographer Pauline Milles, the Glassy Alley is an art studio and gallery that focuses on providing space for upcoming local artists. With the help of local artists, the the gallery space is also used as a venue for workshops for children as well as adults, teaching them the nuances of art-forms like photography, mosaic art, paintings and sculpting. Spread across 3500 square feet (325 square meters), this venue is available for private events, meetings and art workshops. For live performances in Lubbock, the Cactus Theater is the place to go. Originally a second-run movie theater and closed for a while before being refurbished and reopened. Now the Cactus Theater shows groups from all over western Texas and groups such as The JD's and Nostalgia Nites. Musicals and plays are also performed here as well as some that are locally written.
The Blue Light Live has been wowing Texans with their live musical acts since 1999.
