Although it caters mostly to public schools, Safety Village is open every weekday morning from 8a-9a and at Open Recreation times throughout the week for walkers, skaters, and bikers to have a safe, automobile free place to exercise. Camps are available during the summers and birthday party packages are offered.
Flanked by beautiful trees on all sides, Wagner Park is a serene respite for those who want to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This tranquil park serves as a picnic area and a recreational space for locals as well as tourists. Besides offering a playground, tennis court and a walking track, the park is a perfect backdrop for local events such as concerts, gigs and shows.
Do your kids seem to have way too much energy all the time? Having a hard time keeping up? At Jump N Jungle, a unique inflatable space filled with things to climb on, jump on, and bounce on, it is easy to let the young have their fun while you relax. Although mostly a space to rent out for children's birthday parties and other events for the kiddies, there are times reserved for walk-ins. Mondays from 10a-Noon is open jump for all ages. Wednedays from 10a-Noon is "Mommy & Me", a time when the very young do not have to compete with older children. The whole family can enjoy Jump N Jungle on Family Fun Night, on Thursdays from 4p-8p. Socks are required!
Huenke Park is a nice green space set in southwest Lubbock. The park has three different memorials, all visually stimulating and are a good mix of history and beauty. The Veterans Memorial pays tribute to people who have participated in the armed services. Meanwhile, there is a statue depicting Willie McCool who was a pilot for NASA who died in the Space Shuttle Columbia after carrying out numerous experiments in space. The third monument is actually a fountain which features varying colored lights at night for a pleasant sight.
Centered around a beautiful lake, Maxey Park is full of fun outdoor activities for the whole family. The beautiful outdoor pool makes it an ideal destination on hot summer days. One of the best playgrounds in the city is located in Maxey Park and has been nicknamed the "bouncy playground" which is fully wheelchair accessible. The park also includes a canoe rental, baseball fields, volleyball and basketball courts, and fishing.
Black-tailed prairie dogs are a keystone species crucial to ecosystems throughout the western United States, from Texas in the South to Wyoming up north. But nowhere do these herbivorous little critters rule the roost more supremely than down at Prairie Dog Town, a prairie dog sanctuary in the heart of Lubbock's venerable Mackenzie Park. Begun as a modest endeavor in the 1930s, Prairie Dog Town has seen its share of excitement over the years, what with the naming of Mayor Emeritus Kennedy Clapp, the installation of prairie dog Prairie Dog Pete as official Goodwill Ambassador.
Built to allow the Texas Tech University Golf Team to have a great home course and place to practice, the entire community is welcome to take advantage of Rawls Golf Course. The course has received numerous awards by such prestigious magazines as Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, and Golf Week. An onsite pro-shop helps everyone get the necessary equipment to play and improve in the game of golf, and Jerry's serves up delicious fare such as salads and sandwiches for curb the appetite of even the hungriest of golfers.
Inside Mackenzie Park, the Meadowbrook Golf Course provides 36 holes for variety and choice for your golfing game. The Canyon Course is par 72 and the Creek Course is par 70. Besides the 2 courses, there is also a practice green and practice range. After a hard round, enjoy the grill room to stave off your hunger and allow yourself to get another round in. Different tournaments are held throughout the year, and tee times can be made up to 7 days in advance.
Located within the city of Lubbock, Mackenzie Park has plenty to do and provides a nice green space for the residents of the city. The park has all the usual amenities like baseball fields and picnic areas, but it also has some more unusual features such as a sculpture garden, amphitheater, disc golf course, and equestrian trails. The Joyland Amusement Park and Prairie Dog Town are also located within the park. Santa Land, a Christmas celebration, is open seasonally.

A public, 18-hole facility in Lubbock, the Shadow Hills Golf Course is great for beginners and experienced players. Lakes, roughs, and mounds contribute to making the course a par 72. Also available onsite is a driving range using only new and quality balls. A fully stocked pro shop and bar & grill round out the facilities in case extra golf paraphernalia is required or all the golf creates a ravenous appetite. Most popular at the grill are the burgers and homemade desserts.
