A popular destination in the Haymarket district, this busy brewpub has been serving its award-winning ales and hickory-grilled dishes since 1991. Nebraska's oldest and largest operating brewery, it has multiple floors of seating, which give this restaurant a interesting and unusual ambiance. The best seats are at the large, comfortable booths in the low-ceilinged loft above the kitchen; the worst are the tables in the sterile third-floor dining room. What makes this restaurant so popular is the food, which consists of large portions of American brewpub fare. A perfect example is the Stout Loaf Sandwich: this filling dish features a generous slice of meatloaf that is cooked with the brewpub's own stout ale, served over a thick piece of grilled beer bread and smothered in a sweet-and-sour mushroom gravy. Finish this off with a choice of potato;the mashed potatoes are recommended; and there won't be much room for dessert. The brewpub's own beers are particularly fresh and good, though there is a full bar on hand to supply any other drinks you may desire.
This trendy little restaurant is the classier companion to the adjoining Lazlo's Brewery and Grill. A simple dining room arranged around an L-shaped bar and an open-hearth pizza oven lend a warm and homey ambience. The most popular tables are on the patio, however, which has some of the best outside seating in Lincoln. Wood-fired pizzas as well as American, Asian and Italian pastas are the house specialities. The Thai Chicken Pizza ($6.45 for the individual size 10) has a peanut sauce topped with chicken, zuchinni, red peppers, yellow squash, sprouts and provolone cheese. In addition to the excellent food, you will also find fresh-brewed Empyrean Ales, a full bar and a fun, informative wine list.
Located in Lincoln's Historic Haymarket district, this very popular restaurant serves the best Indian food in town. The dining area has a relaxed, upscale decor with soft lighting, bright murals, a choice of indoor or outdoor seating and live jazz on Sundays. For those curious about traditional Indian cooking techniques, a large window gives customers a peek into the kitchen. Entrées include lamb, chicken and seafood dishes as well as an ample selection of vegetarian fare. One favorite is the Fish Masala, which features a generous portion of braised tuna in a mild, coconut milk-based curry sauce. If you're not familiar with Indian cuisine, there are vegetarian and non-vegetarian sampler platters available that come with a variety of entrées and side dishes as well as traditional Indian bread. In addition to the full bar and extensive wine list, you can sample Indian beer brewed by the restaurant's own Jaipur Brewing Company.

Though the large dining room is a little too well lit to be truly romantic, diners can always expect fresh white linen and a carafe of chianti on their tables. The typical clientèle comprises casually dressed middle-class couples and families. The menu features the kinds of Italian fare that most Americans are used to: lasagna, chicken and veal Parmesan, manicotti, etc. One of the best dishes is the Chicken Marsala, a whole chicken breast sautéed with fresh mushrooms in a nutty Marsala wine sauce, served with a roll, salad, vegetables and potato. Beer, wine and cocktails are available from the bar.
A new and trendy restaurant that overlooks downtown Lincoln, this upscale restaurant's small dining room is always full. Tiny spotlights illuminate the closely packed tables and faux antique hutches. There is a kind of uptown prairie vibe that somehow works for the well-dressed professional clientéle. The menu boasts an assortment of grilled and smoked meat and fish as well as pasta and sandwiches. A "river cut" of smoked prime rib is served with a cilantro au jus and has a dark, slow-cooked flavor that is well worth the price. The small and well-stocked bar pours drinks strong enough to make the wait for a table fly by.

Handy Award, which is given by blues musicians to the best national blues venue, this legendary bar gives customers a chance to experience world- famous acts in an intimate setting. The nearly claustrophobic size of this downtown joint has endeared it to both customers and musicians. The walls of the long narrow cave of a room are plastered with handbills advertising past performances ranging from blues legend Bo Diddley to Grammy® Award winning polka band Brave Combo. Don't expect just to sit and watch, though, as the energy in this bar drives people to dance and its not unusual to see college students, professional people and leather clad bikers all lose themselves in the groove on the tiny dance floor. A variety of beer and liquor is available for a well drink or large draught.
Since opening in 1993, this hip beer and pizza joint has become a favorite downtown hangout. Frequented by a crowd of good-looking people in their 20s, this long and narrow pizzeria has exposed brick walls and rough wooden floorboards. Heavy wooden benches and the original pressed-tin ceiling add to the tough, retro vibe. Two pool tables in the rear are almost always occupied, as are the four cast iron tables on the sidewalk. Pizza is available whole or by the slice. Choose from a long list of sauces, cheeses and toppings or order one of the combinations. Baked potatoes are also served with the same choice of toppings as the pizza. A very extensive wine list is available, as are more than 260 microbrewed and imported beers.
