For all The Wizard Of Oz fans out there, this one's not to be missed! In 1907, Max Zimmerman, an enterprising citizen of Liberal, built a replica of the farm and the house that the 1939 movie showcased. Featuring the home where Dorothy, the beloved character played by Judy Garland lived, this place has a hand in putting the town of Liberal on the map. Complete with the famous Yellow Brick Road and life size statues of important characters of the movie, it is also home to one of the most famous Land of Oz dioramas in the country. A huge tourist attraction which was famously visited by Ronald Regan, this park should definitely be on your list when in Kansas!
Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Dorothy's House, enjoy a robotic journey through the Land of Oz. Open Tuesday thru Saturday 9-5 and on Sunday from 1-5 in the winter months. They are open Monday thru Saturday 9-6 and Sunday from 1-5 in the summer months.
The Rock Island Depot was restored in 1998 and is home to the City of Liberal Economic Development office and the Chamber of Commerce. The first depot, connected to the Grier Eating House and Cimarron Hotel, was a handsome wooden plank construction. It was destroyed by fire in 1910. The replacement depot, which still stands, was made of stucco plaster. Collection of railroad memorabilia.
