Since 1954, this trout-catching shop has been the dean of fly fishing expertise for Colorado. Its staff has over 300 years of combined fly fishing experience with insiders' knowledge on what flys to use on what river and at what time. The proverbial Larry the Lunker hates these guys. It also offers one-day classes teaching the basics of both fly fishing and fly tying. The shop carries a huge selection of rods and reels, fly boxes and glasses.

For musicians interested in folk, bluegrass, or all manner of acoustic music, this music house is a must visit. The center carries guitars, banjos, mandolins, autoharps, harmonicas, and even rare and unusual items like a 1920 Gibson six-string banjo. One can also strum through a healthy selection of CDs and tapes. The selection features many hard-to-find folk, Celtic and bluegrass titles. This shop also lays claim to having the largest assortment of picks in Denver.

»The Empty Bottle

The Empty Bottle, located at the far end of the Old South Pearl shopping district, is one of Denver's premiere wine and spirits stores. At about the size of a corner liquor store, The Empty Bottle might not seem to have a fantastic selection at first glance, but step inside and you'll discover that what they do have is top of the line, with more available upon request. The store is set up like an old wine cellar and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. While you won't find cheap bottles here, for the quality the stock is quite reasonably priced. Wine tastings can be arranged for groups, and members of the Wine Club enjoy inexpensive specialty bottles delivered to their door once a month. This is not your usual garage-sale antique shop. Instead you will find highbrow antiques from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.
