»Burton Cummings

April 25, 2015 8:00 PM

Burton Cummings is a Canadian singer/songwriter best known as the lead singer and keyboardist of the popular 1960s/1970s classic rock band, The Guess Who. He was raised in Winnipeg, where he performed in local bands until an opportunity to replace the keyboard player for The Guess Who arose. With the group, Cummings sang and helped pen a number of hit singles, including "American Woman," "These Eyes" and "No Time." In 1975, he left the band to pursue a solo career that included writing songs for film and television. Since then, Cummings continue to tour and release solo material, and has even written a book of poetry.

»Michael McDonald

May 09, 2015 8:00 PM

Michael McDonald's iconic voice, one so husky and soulful that it is identifiable within seconds, has been a voice that has sung its way through American music history. Before his solo career, McDonald was a member of not only one but two bands quintessential to the history of rock: Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers (with whom he won four Grammys). Now, on his own, McDonald is a perfect example of a blue-eyed soul crooner, covering such famous songs as "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "Signed, Sealed, Delivered."

»Bonnie Raitt & Maia Sharp

May 16, 2015 8:00 PM

It might strike some people as odd that a red-headed Caucasian woman like Bonnie Raitt can play the blues guitar like a seasoned veteran of the blues scene. But Raitt has earned her stripes, playing shows around the country and releasing a steady stream of albums since her eponymously titled debut LP in 1971. Growing up in Southern California, Raitt learned to play the guitar when she was in high school and her parents often coerced her to play during family reunions and gatherings. While she didn't necessarily fancy playing at a young age, the time spent dedicating herself to the six-string undoubtedly helped shape the musician and instrumentalist she would grow into. With a bluesy, roots rock approach to music and a unique bottleneck guitar playing style, Raitt's characteristic songs have resonated well with a rather sizable fan base, and over the course of her long career, she has grown into one of the more recognizable voices and faces of the music scene.

»Gregg Allman

June 20, 2015 8:00 PM

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Gregg Allman and his older brother Duane became interested in music at an early age. With Duane on guitar and Gregg taking over piano and vocals, the duo started various bands, had an negative experience with a label-controlled band in Los Angeles, then started the famed Allman Brothers Band in the late 1960s. After Duane's death in 1971, Gregg set out on a solo career--one that would prove highly successful. Primarily sticking to southern rock and blues, Allman has consistently released new material and toured, both solo and with the Allman Brothers Band. Despite his issues with drug addiction and several failed marriages, including one with Cher, Allman is still a respected figurehead of blues-rock and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
