»Cat On A Hot Tin Roof

    September 26, 2014 7:30 PM

Tennessee Williams's groundbreaking 1955 play centers around Maggie, "the cat," and her life married to devastatingly handsome Brick, an alcoholic. The play takes place over one day during a birthday celebration for Brick's father, who is unknowingly ailing from cancer. The play circles around themes of Maggie's suffocating discontent in her marriage, as the secrets of Brick, the family and herself loom overhead. This deftly written work is often considered a classic, and one of Williams' best works, garnering him a Pulitzer Prize the year of its publication. In 1958 it was made into a film staring Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman.

    »Dopapod

    September 27, 2014 9:30 PM

The cross-genre sound of Dopapod is the result of fearless experimentation and a disregard for stylistic rules. With a buffet mix of influences that includes electronic and indie, classic and alternative rock, the four-piece band from Brooklyn first captured its sound in 2009 with its debut album Radar. Critically acclaimed for its experimental finesse, the album set the standard high for Dopapod and the band responded with its 2011 live follow-up I Saw Live Dopapod Live Evil I Was. Though recorded live the record featured spliced and mixed multi-track recordings that demonstrated the bands mastery of both dubstep drops and guitar-powered rock. Dopapod released its second studio album, Drawn Onward, in 2011.

    »Anais Mitchell

    September 27, 2014 8:00 PM

Anais Mitchell is an indie folk artist from Vermont who transcends the typical twee, lovesick stereotypes that often accompany female singer/songwriters. Though her music falls in line with the gentle guitar picking and emotive, fragile vocal styling of modern indie folk, Mitchell approaches her lyrical output with a grand sense of scope that doesn't shy away from ambitious undertakings. In 2006, she wrote a "folk opera" called Hadestown that updates the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, setting it in a modern, economically crippled America. After touring the show across Vermont and other areas of New England, Mitchell set out to create an album version of the performance. She enlisted the help of big names such as Ani DiFranco and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, and in 2010, Hadestown the album was released to steady amounts of positive acclaim.
