Although Pho Bo Vang right next to the I5 freeway, finding Pho Bo Vang will require navigating through some side streets. Though hard to find, this simple Vietnamese restaurant is not without its charm if the lunch line is any indication. During dinner, the staff might even request that you order something that can be prepared quickly, for the sake of the families waiting outside. Needless to say, there's a reason for the wait. Though the spring rolls and pho are excellent, don't hesitate to try something different. Pho Bo Vang is a good place to try other Vietnamese specialties, like stir fried noodles with shrimp, chicken and vegetables, or rice with filet mignon. Everything on the menu is of high quality, and you definitely won't regret having gotten in line. -Hoiyin Ip
In 1984, Peppino's opened in Lake Forest—one of the lesser-known cities in Orange County. Now this Italian family restaurant has become a local chain with four more locations in Mission Viejo, Foothill Ranch, Aliso Viejo and Irvine. The first thing that catches you in the restaurant is the smell, so wonderful that you are determined to have a huge meal. The earthy color decor and old photos only add to the inviting charm. The bread is nothing fancy, just like what mom makes. The menu is big and filled with excellent dishes; an easy way out would be to pick from the daily special. Otherwise, start with seafood or pizza. The service is slow; but looking over the other tables, you know the wait is worth it. - Hoiyin Ip
Spice Thai is not really conveniently located by any major attraction or freeway. Coming here is like you've found your way around in Lake Forest. The exterior blends in with the very ordinary shopping center that houses it, but the interior is bright and pleasant. The restaurant gets packed during lunch and dinner time. Crying Tiger is what everyone raves about, while Penang Beef and Green Curry are also very popular. Aside from the usual, try something different! Chef Tuey, who gained a cooking degree in Thailand, will not disappoint. Although the service can be inconsistent from time to time, take-out is always a safe bet for those who cannot wait. - Hoiyin Ip
Inside this hole-in-the-wall is a combination of a fast-food eatery and a grocery store. The lack of style is a hint of the price and the taste - cheap and authentic. The hot dishes are homemade comfort food, but try to get there in the middle of the day while the selection is still plentiful.
Simple and clean, Texas Pit Barb-B-Que is designed to look like a barn with an open kitchen, giving it that authentic down-home feel. Portions here are large, making Texas Pit Barb-B-Que an ideal place for sharing or family dining. - Hoiyin Ip
Buried in the far corner of the quiet Twin Peaks Plaza, Genghis Khan Mongolian Bar-B-Q has poor visibility, but this family-owned restaurant has been around since the 1970s. Why pay a restaurant when you can get a big plate of Mongolian BBQ for cheap at a food court? Once you walk in, you realize a few reasons. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated with masculine Mongolian art and pretty Chinese paintings. The friendly staff are upfront about the fact that the regular portion is generous enough for most appetites, although an all-you-can-eat option is offered, both with a variety of sauces. Suggested recipes are provided for different tastes. From seafood to vegetarian, the menu has no shortage of variety.

Fancy yet affordable, Break of Dawn has cultivated a fiercely loyal following. From the decor to the food, much of the style can be explained by one thing: the owner and chef Dee Nguyen is Vietnamese and was Ritz Carlton's Executive Sous Chef. Some of the popular dishes are the Duck Fat Omelet, Corned Beef with Tarragon-Cabbage, Thai Basil Pesto-Hollandaise and Hawaiian Sausage. This restaurant is situated close to many shopping complexes and is ideal for relaxing after an engaging shopping trip.
