The Episcopal Church of the Ascension here in Lafayette comes from an Anglican ancestry. Typical Louisiana construction, the church was designed by A. Hays Town who used to be a member of the church. This beautiful swamp has the densest population of water birds, nutrias and alligators. Many of the alligators which doze along the edge are ten to fifteen feet long. The levee around the swamp has a great trail for hiking.
