    »Bayside Kitchen Saymama

Considered by bay-goers as the place to take your date, the Osaka Bay restaurant faces west, giving couples ample opportunity to enjoy the sunsets. Providing creative, garlic-based cuisine, course-menu meals start at JPY2,980, including after-dinner coffee or tea, and dessert.

    »World Buffet

It is hard to say which is the bigger draw of the restaurant, the 30-item buffet, which includes ethnic dishes from all over the world, or the view from its windows, as it is located on the 48th floor of the World Trade Center Cosmos Tower. Most would say the latter, though you may have difficulty getting a seat by the window. Otherwise, the restaurant is unremarkable, with simple round tables and chairs, and decor reminiscent of a hotel banquet room.

    »Wine Museum Osaka

This museum is a must-visit not only for the connoisseur of good wines but also for anyone who has an interest in this most historical of all beverages. As well as exhibits that show the history and development of wine, this museum also houses a restaurant that allows patrons to sample wines from around the world. And for those who prefer not to drink on an empty stomach, the restaurant also serves French cuisine. If you need a bottle or two of wine to take home, drop in at the wine mart where you will find a huge selection to choose from.

    »Hard Rock Cafe Osaka

The HRC Osaka is no different from any of the dozens of others all over the world. The gaudy, lavish decorations are comprised of music memorabilia, rock & roll music plays loud, and the menu features some hearty meals. This is perhaps the best place you can go in Japan for hamburgers and other meat dishes, though the other entries are equally as good. Prices are typically between JPY1,000 and JPY2,000. Drinks, such as beer and cocktails start at a pretty reasonable price. Also note that the HRC tends to be a favorite stopping off place for local celebrities.

    »Bubba Gump Shrimp

The inspiration for this restaurant should be obvious to most: Forrest Gump, the 1995 Academy Award-winning film featuring a character of the same name who makes his fortune through shrimp. The restaurant serves the same, in untold varieties, as well as other generally fried seafood dishes. It is certainly a family restaurant, especially popular among kids, with simple tables and booths and unremarkable decor.

    »Buco di Muro

Although located in the Citywalk shopping center by Universal Studios, this place is much better than the other mainstream restaurants around it. The food is classic Italian, made with fresh-picked herbs and spices. The ingredients in the pizzas, pastas and meat dishes are unaltered to suit traditional Japanese tastes. They are real Italian. The simple tables are comfortable enough and the atmosphere quiet enough—despite the restaurant's location—for you to enjoy your meal.

    »Seiryumon

Although located in the Citywalk shopping center by Universal Studios, Osaka residents from other parts of the city apparently come out for this delicious Taiwanese food prepared by native Taiwanese chefs. Spicy shrimp combinations, dumplings, chicken, salads and deserts as well as bigger meals are available. The decor is hip and contemporary, like something out of Planet Hollywood or Hard Rock Cafe, though slightly nicer. The low, circular tables and squat, padded stools are conducive to a casual environment.

    »Kua' Aina

This restaurant, located in the Citywalk shopping center by Universal Studios, specializes in one thing: hamburgers, the Hawaiian way. That means that they do not skimp on the amount of beef you get and your hamburger is going to have a bit of a bite to it because of the special blend of spices used. Dishes come with large helpings of fries, with other side orders and standard appetizers like nachos also available.

    »Celadon

This affordable Vietnamese restaurant in the Citywalk shopping center, whose decor is far more reminiscent of colonial influence than an exotic southeast Asia, serves a wide range of dishes with a rich—and often spicy taste. Fried vegetables, chicken dishes, Spring Rolls and salads start at slightly over, while larger meals are generally a little more expensive. Note that in general, however, portions are somewhat small. There is also an open terrace where you can enjoy your meals al fresco.

    »Fandango

If live rock music turns you on, then head for Fandango. This live house is one of the best venues in Osaka to see punk, heavy metal, indie and alternative acts, both local and international. The atmosphere is fearsome--the audience rocks and sways with the music in a kind of frenetic new dance form, so why not join in. There is a fully stocked bar that offers local and imported beers starting at a reasonable price, a fine selection of whiskeys and just about any cocktail you can think of, are all available here. Snacks are also available.
