This gothic style restaurant-theatre called Merlins Wunderland is located in a former farmstead with several acres of land. The 'wonderland' is divided into three different parts: a restaurant-theatre with 480 seats, the Augustkeller, a sandstone vault with seating for 80; and the Prinzengarten with over 1000 open-air seats. The food is excellent and the theatre programme is refreshingly diverse, featuring both historical and modern pieces performed by well-known actors and musicians.
The Theater Junge Generation offers pieces for children, adolescents, and adults. For several years theater has been doing puppetry as well as cinema screenings. The children s events take place during the daylight hours, and there are occasionally special screenings for schools and other large groups. Theater plays a big roll in this venue s identity, too; every year in fall they host the Theater Market, a huge spectacle with music, games, and all kinds of theater related activities.
TIF - short for Theatre in the Factory - is a small, alternative theatre with seating for 99. At home in a former factory, the resulting atmosphere is quite raw and harsh, which fits in well with plays like Trainspotting. Founded in 1993, the theatre has a tradition of putting on critical and often controversial productions. Highly recommended for fans of alternative theatre who can understand a bit of German.
