Schloßplatz is a square located in the Altstadt district, right in the city center. It is named in the honor of Kings of Saxony, who resided in the south side of the square. A massive portion of the square was destroyed during bombings on Dresden, in World War II. The building has now been restored but it still bears the scares of German history. The square is surrounded by other notable attractions on the city like the Katholische Hofkirche and the Sächsische Ständehaus. It is also an address to the spot where Napoleon Bonaparte bid adieu to this army and left for the Battle of Dresden.
