»Fefu and Her Friends

February 26, 2015 8:00 PM

"My husband married me to have a constant reminder of how loathsome women are," exclaims the eccentric Fefu at the start of playwright Maria Irene Fornes' celebrated play "Fefu and Her Friends". This mysterious, fun and dissident exploration of womanhood makes its way to Atlanta's Conant Performing Arts Center. It's New England in 1935 and Fefu has invited seven of her closest friends to her country house for an afternoon of shocking conversation and social subversion. When the women separate into different rooms of the house, you'll follow them, becoming voyeurs of their complex inner world. Considered one of the pinnacles of feminist theatre, this Obie-winning 1977 play made waves for its alternative staging and use of an all-female cast.
