    »Fortunate Youth

    September 17, 2014 8:00 PM

An all-star group of sorts comprised from members of the Southern California reggae scene, Fortunate Youth combines traditional roots reggae with a modern pop accessibility. The band's debut full-length album, entitled Irie State of Mind, became a hit nationwide and managed to land toward the top of the Billboard reggae chart. Using funky instrumentation via the group's talented rhythm section, Fortunate Youth layers emotive vocals and beach chair vibes atop its dub-tinged reggae-pop tracks. The band continues to expand its devoted following and has been able to share the stage with several reggae legends, including The Wailers and Toots & The Maytals.

    »Shovels and Rope

    September 18, 2014 7:00 PM

Shovels & Rope is a group that prides itself on simplicity. Based out of Charleston, South Carolina, the folk duo, comprised of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, uses two old guitars, a tin pan alley styled drum set (comprised of parts found at a junk yard), as well as harmonicas and heaps of vocals to create a style of music the two call "sloppy tonk." Shovels & Rope spent the majority of 2011 on the road, performing in various bars and music venues, where it was able to hone its approach before opting to record its debut album, which was released in 2012.

    »Corey Smith

    September 19, 2014 9:00 PM

Corey Smith is a singer/songwriter and guitarist who grew up in Jefferson, a small town in Georgia. For much of his adolescence, Smith was discontent with his small town roots, admitting later that he often dreamed of leaving Jefferson. After one semester abroad, he found that his heart remained in Georgia and returned home to attend the University of West Georgia and then the University of Georgia, where his longtime girlfriend and now wife attended. During school, he developed a reputation for playing his guitar everywhere and anywhere, often spotted with the instrument at parties and bars. His debut album Undertones, released in 2003, features one of his most requested songs, "Twenty One." Smith gained a solid fan base with his alcohol and party-driven lyrics as well as his folk rock/country blues sound, a brand of music that he continued throughout his following albums including his 2011 effort, The Broken Record.
