»Felipe Esparza

March 28, 2015 7:00 PM

Felipe Esparza is a Latin-American comedian from East-Los Angeles who might best be known for winning the televised talent competition Last Comic Standing in 2010. With a keen eye for the innate, yet hilarious details of life, and a razor sharp wit, Esparza started off building a name for himself in Southern California comedy clubs, but soon graduated to the national level after winning the top prize of the aforementioned NBC-broadcast TV show. Though his style of humor might not fall into the "family friendly" category, Esparza's ability to transcend political correct boundaries and create a characteristic style of humor is nearly unrivaled in the modern stand-up comedy scene. .

»2nd Annual Pittsburgh Women & Biking Forum

March 28, 2015 9:30 AM

Pedaling Together Share Skills, Build Community. Join BikePGH and women from throughout the region at the 2nd Annual Women & Biking Forum! Register today to participate in a great day of meeting other women and trans identified people who bike (or are bike-curious).  Whether you are interested in learning the basics of bike mechanics; discussing the realities of biking as women; biking with kids and a parent or childcare provider; talking about biking with friends or coworkers; or becoming a stronger advocate for safe cycling, there will be a workshop for you! In addtion to workshop and discussion opportunties, we'll also have some truly inspiring keynote speakers who will be sharing their stories with you.  We're excited to build on last year's wonderful event where we learned some of the key interests and concerns of women in the bicycling community. This year's forum will provide even more tools that empower women to share their voices and advocate for themselves. The day will end with an optional, low-key bike ride, further establishing the great community built during the forum. See you there! About our keynote speakers: Ren Barger Is the founder and CEO of Tulsa Hub in Tulsa Oklahoma, and also the Keynote speaker at this year's National Women and Biking Forum. In 2004 Ren was hit and badly injured by a motorist; this experience galvanized her commitment to active-transportation safety education and equity promotion for all users of the roadway, and resulted in ongoing analysis of the built environment "from the gutter up--" not to mention the inherent prejudices within the concept of "normal." Ren founded Tulsa Hub in 2008 as a volunteer-powered social business which offers low-or-no-cost reconditioned bikes and gear to indigent adults in need of transportation to achieve improved autonomy. Upon consummating studies at the United Bicycle Institute in Ashland, Oregon, in 2009, she honed her passion for service, social justice, and bicycle advocacy into a mission focused on changing lives through cycling.   Monica Garrison is a Pittsburgh resident and the creator of a national movement. She is the founder of BlackGirlsDoBike.com, a website with over 4,000 followers that is committed to growing and supporting a community of women of color who share a passion for cycling. Monica works to help women of color meet up with other women in their cities to share, ask, organize, and engagne in their bicycling communities. Black Girls Do Bike shares positive images of ladies and their bikes on the web answering the question, "Do black girls bike?" with a resounding, "Yes!"  Registration InformationAdmission to the day-long conference, including a catered lunch: BikePGH members receive a discount on admission!
