The full-sized bar provides the typical snacks and sandwiches found in most clubs. See website for event calendar, DJ info, and photo and video galleries.
Patrons don't mind making the trip to Blawnox if the evening ends at Moondog's. Live music is the heart and soul of the place. The music ranges from jazz and blues to rock and pop. The bar is famous for bringing national acts to the stage on weekends. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are open stage nights where anything goes. The menu features American dishes. See the website for the events calendar and more.
Located in Shadyside, Buffalo Blues was recently voted as having the best wings in Pittsburgh. You'll understand the vote after tasting some of the 13 special sauces, ranging from sweet to "Hotter 'n Hell." In addition, the menu features a variety of sandwiches, ribs and salads. Swordfish and catfish are also favorites. On the weekends, either a DJ or a band performs. Music ranges from blues to reggae to classic rock and roll. There are also some pool tables for those who need more than wings and a beer to occupy their night.
This unassuming Squirrel Hill eatery serves low-priced comfort food in a subtly modern environment. Salads here are robust, topped with anything from salmon to chicken or even steak. The sandwich menu is extensive (featuring everything from a veggie wrap to a barbecued beef brisket hoagie). When you order one of their gourmet burgers, you get to spice it up with items from a long list of toppings (including smoked gouda, portabella mushrooms, and hot banana peppers). Other belly-warming comfort foods on offer include crab cakes, a penne sausage bake, and home-style pot roast. Steaks here are aged and hickory grilled. Sunday Brunch sees the menu augmented with omelettes, "Hobo Hash," and even a breakfast Reuben. It may be unassuming, but anyone who says there's nothing fancy about this place is off their rocker. See website for menu and calendar.
Club Havana was into swing bands and Latin music before they ever became the "in" thing. Their DJs play Latin and salsa music every night from 10p-2a. Merengue dancing lessons are available Sundays from 8p-10p. The club has a full martini bar and a humidor, so the place is usually filled with cigar smoke, albeit not from real Cuban cigars.
Sandbar gives patrons a taste of the beach throughout the summer. Located at Sandcastle water park, the bar has a hot tub that seats 100 and a large wading pool. The open-air bar has house music every night. Sundays are dedicated to the under-21 crowd. The bar also sponsors a variety of theme nights. See website for info and photos.

Bands play Fridays and Saturdays. The cover charge ranges from $2 to $5. The kitchen serves up traditional Polish food and the typical bar fare.
Hambone's is a casual restaurant that serves American cuisine and hometown favorites. Patrons will get a small taste of the food that Pittsburghers have grown up eating. The menu is filled with burgers, sandwiches, soups and stews (a favorite is the turtle soup). The food may not be gourmet cuisine but it is good and very filling. There is a fully stocked bar, a dance floor and occasional live entertainment.
Thunderbird Cafe is as unique as its name is. A live music venue-cum-bar-cum-restaurant, Thunderbird is a perfect blend of great food, good music and a rocking atmosphere. From the moment you step in, you'll find yourself drawn towards the dance floor, what with the live bands rocking the night away! The three-leveled lounge has an upfront bar and a pool table on the first level and two large television sets on the next level. Further up, there is a small stage where you will find bands performing everything from jazz to blues and Americana music. There is ample seating space all around the bar and the stage is visible from everywhere. While grooving to the music, make sure you grab a bite of the burgers and the absolutely delectable barbecue dishes that the restaurant offers.
Located behind Iron City Brewing, Donny's Place does not exactly fit its tough Polish Hill neighborhood. There are three bars and outdoor patios that feature rock water fountains and sculptures, and the dance floor is open on weekends, when DJs play a variety of music. Donny's centerpiece is Leather Central, a bar in the basement that features sectional seating separated by 55-gallon drum walls. This bar also hosts a variety of theme nights. The kitchen is open 6p-Mid and serves American cuisine, such as burgers, hotdogs and tuna salad.
