Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park is a wonderland for the Florida's animal and plant life. Visitors can have a look at the West Indian Manatees, Red Wolves, Alligators, Black Bears and White-tailed deer, among plenty other animals. Home to hundreds of flora and fauna species, this park offers boating trips, hiking opportunities as well as picnicking spots. Educational programmes regarding Florida's habitat and surroundings is also available. There is also a cafe where visitors can relax with some refreshments. Located in Homosassa, about three miles west of Homosassa Springs, Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins Historic State Park features the remnants of a once-thriving 5,100-acre sugar plantation owned by David Levy Yulee. Visitors are able to see a 40-foot limestone masonry chimney, iron gears, a cane press, and several interpretive panels regarding sugar making.
Crystal River Archaeological State Park is located on Crystal River and within the Crystal River Preserve State Park. The park contains a six-mound area from the Deptford to the Late Fort Walton period. The park also has a limestone slab which is surprising as this kind of slabs are found in area like the Caribbean, South America, and Central America. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1970.
Best Hay Farm Petting Zoo offers a variety of kid-friendly farm animals for viewing, petting, and feeding. A stroll through the barn gives visitors an opportunity to meet alpacas, llamas, goats and a few of other barnyard friends.
