»Casting Crowns

April 09, 2015 7:00 PM

First thing that might be able to tell you the nature of this Christian soft rock group: all four permanent members of the band consider their work with music to be a part time activity, scheduling it around their full-time work--mentoring teenagers at their church in McDonough, Georgia. This bit of info is useful in understanding what type of band Casting Crowns is and how much their God means to them. The band made a splash in the Christian music scene after releasing a string of well received albums throughout the 2000s and playing contemporary worship services on Sunday mornings at their church in Georgia.

»Jamey Johnson

April 18, 2015 7:00 PM

Joamey Johnson got his start in the music industry with BNA Records, and the Alabama-born country singer/songwriter released his debut album TheDollar, in 2006. Though the lead single peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, the follow up single failed to chart and Johnson was consequently dropped form his label. Johnson began focusing on his songwriting and would go on to pen songs for several other artists, including the number one country music hit, "Give It Away," which he co-wrote with Bill Anderson and Cannon for George Strait. After releasing his 2008 album That Lonesome Song, exclusively online Johnson earned the attention of Mercury Nashville Records who offered him a deal and re-released his second album. That Lonesome Song became certified gold by 2009, marking the beginning of several cornerstone moments in Johnson's career, including his nominations for the 2009 CMA Award for New Artist of the Year as well as the 2010 Academy of Country Music Award for Top New Solo Vocalist. In 2011 he joined Kid Rock on his Born Free Tour and played a main stage set at Willie Nelson's Country Throwdown.

»The Gatlin Brothers

May 16, 2015

Larry Gatlin is a country music singer/songwriter best known for the music he produced with the Gatlin Brothers. From Seminole, TX Larry often performed with his brothers, Steve and Rudy, at their local church and on local radio stations. He joined the gospel music group The Imperials, and traveled with the ensemble to perform at Jimmy Dean's Las Vegas Revue in Las Vegas in 1971. At the venue, Larry caught the attention of singer Dottie West who, impressed with his songwriting, handed off his demo tapes around Nashville and arranged for him to move to Tennessee. He released his debut album The Pilgrim, in 1973. The album's initial singles failed to gain him commercial or critical acclaim, but it featured "Bitter They Are," a song eventually recorded by Elvis Presley. Larry's first major hit was the 1975 song "Broken Lady," which won him a Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1977. In 1979, he officially added his brothers to his lineup, signing with Columbia Records as Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers. The band, also known as simply the Gatlin Brothers, released its debut Straight Ahead, the same year. The album spawned the brothers' only number one hit, "All the Gold in California," but Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers continued to break into several top ten US charts throughout the 1980s. After over a decade together, the Gatlin Brothers embarked on a farewell tour in 1992 before parting ways. Larry went on to star in the production of The Will Rogers Follies on Broadway and has appeared on Fox News as political commentator/
