A prominent venue for cultural events in the town of Bluffton, the Ulmer Auditorium is located at the Town Hall in the center of town. Among the events held here are concerts, theatrical performances, dance events, and much more. Arthur Lucas, the proud owner of about 20 theaters, started this theater in 1921. He maintained absolutely cordial relationships with Savannah residents by giving away free tickets and gifts for birthdays and anniversaries. It was then, a popular venue for concerts, films and theatrical performances for about 40 years. With the popularization of other media, this theater was neglected and was proposed for demolition. Patrons, artists and localites who had been witness to the grandeur of the Lucas Theater, donated and collected funds and revived the theater in the year 2000. Now in affiliation with the Savannah College of Art and Design, the theater has regained its popularity and charm.
Like the Lucas Theatre, this theater was revived by the Savannah College of Arts and Design. Earlier known as the Weis Theater, run by the Weis family, this theater became a victim of the multiplex culture and lost its popularity. After being acquired by the College, the theater was restored, renamed the Trustees Theater and reopened in 1998. With 1,200 seats, the venue now hosts fashion shows, film screenings and theatrical performances. The theater hosts the Savannah Film Festival held by the College.
The Savannah Civic Center consists of two venues, where there's much action and fun to catch up with. 'The Martin Luther King Arena', is a huge arena with a capacity of 3,500 people. 'Johnny Mercer Theatre, is a smaller one with 2,524 seats and the proscenium in this theater is the largest. Hosting performances of local soloist and bands, it presents various ticketed events. Wormhole also hosts a variety of touring groups who are distinguished by their acute music senses.
