Comprising of five individual exchanges under one roof, Börse is Hamburg's very own stock exchange dating way back to 1558- thus making it Germany's oldest exchange center. At first, business was conducted in the open air near the Trostbrücke
and then later inside a building which was located near this locale. The latter was destroyed in the infamous Hamburg fire of 1842. The elegant building you can see today was given several annexes in 1882-84 and 1909-12. As far as the interiors are concerned, the oldest hall with its inner arcades and classical frescoes are well worth a closer look. In addition to the stock exchange, the city's Chamber of Commerce (founded in 1665) is also situated here.
