The Curecanti National Recreation Area is a formation of the Gunnison River reservoirs. Bordering the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, it features on the National Register of Historic Places. The other main attractions of this park are the dinosaur fossils, narrow gauge trains and 6000 year-old dwellings. It is governed and managed by the National Park Services and is spread over an area of 43,095 acres (17,439.9 hectares).
Encompassing a mind blowing area of 1672136 acres (676689.43 hectares), the Gunnison National Forest is a haven for outdoor activities. Right from cycling, fishing and hiking to camping, picnicking and hunting you can do everything here. This lush green space is the dream of every adrenaline junkie. Situated at 8885 feet (2708 meters) above sea level, Crested Butte was once a thriving coal mine hub. Its topography makes it a great destination for adventure sports and outdoor activities like skiing and snowboarding in winter, and mountain biking, hiking and rock climbing in summer. Throughout the year, it hosts several cultural festivals that are a popular draw.
