»Celebration Station

Celebration Station is the perfect place for a fun outing. The amusement park contains an arcade with over 100 games, bumper boats, go-karts, mini-golf, rides and batting cages. Entrance to the park is free, and prices for each activity differ. A minimum height requirement applies to some of the attractions. Rates for large groups are available, and birthday packages include a meal in the on-site restaurant.

»Triad Park

Triad Park, located to the west of Greensboro, spans 426 acres (172.40 hectares) of meadows and woods. Visitors can enjoy the horseshoe pits, sand volleyball courts, softball field and soccer fields for a small fee, or they can choose to tackle one of the many hiking trails in the park. The catch-and-release fishing pond is stocked with small fish. Reservations for picnic shelters and Woodland Hall should be made well in advance. The park is open from 7a daily, and closes at different times depending on the season.

Piedmont Environmental Center is a lovely place for all nature lovers. The center conducts several programs which are attended by naturalists and other nature enthusiasts. »Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden

The Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden was created by Greensboro Beautiful, Inc. in conjunction with the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department. Greensboro Beautiful is a nonprofit organization dedicated to maintaining and enhancing Greensboro's natural beauty, and in 1976 created the Bicentennial Garden with that purpose in mind. Sculptures of historical interest are placed throughout the park, and the flowering trees, lush greenery, and flowing stream create an idyllic setting for a romantic or family outing. This public garden is open daily from dawn until dusk, and is available for weddings.

»The Bog Garden

Located near the Bicentennial Garden, The Bog Garden gives visitors a rare chance to walk through the wetlands via an elevated walkway. Visitors will be surrounded by lush green vistas - a welcome escape from the sights and sounds of the city. The nature preserve contains a multitude of local flora and fauna, and the notable attractions in the park are the Dr. Joe Christian Serenity Falls and the Starmount Farms Lake Overlook. About a mile of trails wind through the park, and bicycles are strictly prohibited.

»Lake Higgins Watershed Park

Named after former Creensboro City Councilmen Vic Higgins when it opened back 1956, the lake itself is a 226-acre municipal reservoir. Fishing is allowed from a boat or pier, as is kayaking and canoeing. Don't worry if you don't have your own boat, kayak or canoe, because you can rent any of these from the park for pretty cheap.

»Bald Eagle Mountain Bike Trail

The Bald Eagle Mountain Bike Trail is a 4-mile route that goes along the shores of beautiful Lake Higgins. Located about 8-miles outside of Greensboro, the trail is perfect for biking and is a relatively easy hike. The trail is located in a beautiful area, with tall trees all around and ample wildlife. You might even see a bald eagle when you are out here - just make sure you bring your camera to document it.

»Guilford Courthouse National Military Park

Back during the Revolutionary War the battle for Guilford Courthouse was fought, with Major General Nathanael Greene and his men trying to defend the land against the British and German allies led by Lord Charles Cornwallis. Eventually Corwallis and his troops forced Greene to retreat, before Corwallis himself eventually surrendered to George Washington. Today, the grounds stand as a memorial to America's history as well as to the world at large with 28 monuments all around the park.

»Owl's Roost Trail

Greensboro's Owl's Roost Trail is a paradise for bikers. Complete with numerous twists and turns, this 4.3-mile trail makes for quite the workout. More difficult than other bike trails in the area, this route is not recommended for beginners. In addition to the original trail, an extra mile of old fire lanes have been made into trails, making this place an even more exciting experience. Hiking is also allowed on this trail, with the lush surroundings making for a beautiful time out.

»Bur-Mil Park

Bur-Mil Park is located on the shores of Lake Brandt in Guilford County. The premises include a swimming pool that is used for local swim meets, a clubhouse that can be rented for corporate or social events, a golf course, tennis courts, and trails for hiking or biking. Visitors to the park can take lessons in any of the sports mentioned above, and picnic areas and a wildlife center are also available to the public. The park is open from 8a until sunset.

Get out and discover Greensboro when you explore the Downtown Greenway. The Downtown Greenway is a 4-mile route that is perfect for walking, running or biking. An added plus is that the greenway takes you through many of the historic and interesting sights that Greensboro has to offer. Hop off the greenway to grab a bite to eat at one of the numerous local restaurants or do some shopping, then when you are done just get back on and continue your pleasant afternoon out.

»Wild Turkey Trail

Wild Turkey Trail is a 4.5-mile long route that is perfect for both hiking and biking. Bikers especially love this trail, with its many challenging features. There are moguls, pyramids made of of logs, multiple bridges and a rock jump for riders to contend with. The trail also leads to access to the Lake Brandt Marina, making this a popular place for water-lovers as well. Please note that the marina is closed on Tuesdays.
