Texas-born musician Joe Ely has played with everyone from Bruce Springsteen and Lyle Lovett to Uncle Tupelo and the Clash. Ely started his career in the seminal country-folk band The Flatlanders and has since released a string of well-received albums that explore everything from rock to honky-tonk. In his long and varied career, one constant has been the skillful consistency of both his performances and original compositions.

The first major American exhibition to consider the French floral still life across the 19th century will premiere at the DMA in October 2014. Bouquets: French Still-Life Painting from Chardin to Matisse, co-organized by the DMA and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, will showcase approximately 60 floral still lifes from painters such as Eugène Delacroix, Gustave Courbet, Henri Fantin-Latour, Édouard Manet, and Paul Cézanne to, highlight the well-established painting genre in France during the 1800s. This exhibition will include six works from the DMA’s collection, and be accompanied by a fully illustrated color catalogue.
