    »Royal Southern Brotherhood

    September 17, 2014 7:00 PM

Led by New Orleans-born funk vocalist and percussionist Cyril Neville of The Meters and Texas-born blues-rock guitarist Devon Allman of The Honeytribe and The Allman Brothers Band, Royal Southern Brotherhood had an audience well before it formed in 2011. The band's all-star lineup, which also includes guitarist and vocalist Mike Zito, combines its chosen sounds to create a brand of southern rock that justifies its gaudy name. Royal Southern Brotherhood uses elements of rock and roll, soul, R&B and of course funk and blues to create its seasoned southern sound.

    »Max Raabe & Palast Orchester

    September 20, 2014 7:30 PM

Max Raabe & Palast Orchester is a musical ensemble based in Berlin. Fascinated with the music and style of the past, leader and vocalist Max Raabe created the orchestra in 1985 with his fellow students of music at the Berlin University of Fine Arts. Together they use original dance band arrangements from the 1920s and 1930s, bringing back what Raabe calls the golden period of dance music. Dressed in vintage fine dining attire, Max Raabe & Palast Orchester evoke the glamour of German cabaret with timeless melodies and humor. The orchestra, made up of 13 men and a single female violinist, invokes sensational nostalgia with smooth talent and a recaptured wit from decades passed.

Accept is a German heavy metal band that consists of Udo Dirkschneider, Wolf Hoffmann, Hermann Frank, Peter Baltes and Stefan Schwarzmann. Formed in 1971, the band draws inspiration from a spectrum of themes including ecology, social problems, and controversial issues. In spite of these heavy topics, Accept manages to keep its music powerful and energetic. The band, which split up for a period during the late 1990s and early 2000s, started collaborating again in 2009. Its last album Sharp Bite was released in 2005.

Edguy is a power metal band from Germany that prides itself on the harrowing power of rock. With soaring Iron Maiden-style vocals and intense double bass work, combined with wailing guitar shredding, Edguy has managed to latch onto a distinct sound that has risen the group to prominence amongst a dedicated group of fans. The band has been making music since 1992, but the group's throwback tone sounds like it belongs amongst the early 80s metal scene.

    »Avi Buffalo

    September 23, 2014

Southern California-based indie folk outfit Avi Buffalo (a spin on the name of chief songwriter, Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg) had the fortunate pleasure of signing with Sub Pop Records when its members were just barely out of high school. It's not difficult to see what the popular label saw in the band, however, as the Long Beach duo creates sparkling folk tunes that can hold up with the best of its contemporaries. Comparisons to the acoustic-based indie rock of groups such as The Shins and The Fruit Bats are practically inevitable, but Avi Buffalo brings enough to the table to avoid claims of complete derivation. Zahner-Isenberg is a creative songwriter whose hooks are catchy but rarely glaringly obvious or heavy-handed, which, coupled with the high-pitched, unique timbre of his voice, adds up to a strong combination of charm and fun, breezy pop.
