Thornstroms Kok is a delightful little restaurant that is traditional yet so very contemporary in its own special way. It features an excellent menu spanning a large choice of traditional local delicacies. Imagine all these cooked with European influences under the magical hand of Hakan Thornstrom. If you're wondering who he is, he was the judge to a world cup cuisine in Switzerland. This should give you a good idea of the gastronomic experience that this restaurant can offer. This local favorite is definitely a must try for some great gourmet Swedish cuisine.
Le Baron, in spite of its name, is quite a pleasant, humble little restaurant offering both pizzas and an à la carte menu, among other things. The restaurant is right opposite Svenska Mässan, where many exhibitions and conferences are held. It is small but cozy, with brick walls and checkered tablecloths. The menu offers pizzas, several solid meat and fish dishes, and also some cheaper smaller ones and a number of pasta dishes of which one is vegetarian. There are several salads to choose from and a separate children's menu. The pizzas are available for takeaway. The daily lunches include a choice of the pizzas from the menu and also a traditional Swedish dish, which varies from day to day.

La Cucina Italiana is one of the few places in Gothenburg where smoking is strictly prohibited. The owner, Pietro Fioriniello, prefers the guests not to use their mobile phones either; he has had a "no ringing" sign printed at the bottom of the menu. And on the stone walls of the restaurant, he also exhibits his paintings. La Cucina Italiana is situated right opposite Svenska Mässan, where many exhibitions and conferences are held, and is very popular among the Gothenburg locals.
Owned by one of Sweden's most famous younger generation chefs, Stefan Karlsson, Fond sports several other award-winning chefs, among them Chef of the Year. The food is expensive, suitable for businessmen with expenses accounts. But Fond is a definite must for someone with a lot of money to spend and an interest in gourmet cooking. The dining hall is modern with a typical Scandinavian design, the eating area is non-smoking and the guests command a majestic view of Gothenburg's pride, the Avenue. If you are dying for a smoke, you may sit at the bar, where cigars are also available.
Restaurang Frågetecknet (name literally meaning a question mark) offers a variety of dishes from many countries served with a Swedish touch. There are also several pasta dishes which are available as starters, in smaller portions. The menu is international: the Bosnian specialty Cevapcici shares the menu with the Italian dessert Tiramisù. The reason for the 'questionable' name is mainly due to all the problems that delayed the opening of the restaurant. Many questions were left unanswered and hence the owners decided to name the restaurant after them. Needless to say but one can certainly get answers with regard to delicacies.
Stage Door is the place where actors and musicians hang out, which is shown from its name. Performing arts students also go to the restaurant, since it is not very far from Artisten, the University of Gothenburg's artistic centre. The menu offers a variety of different dishes and specialties. From Mexican food and burgers to pasta and salads. The prices are very reasonable and the premises large, so it can get pretty loud as the evening progresses, but the atmosphere is jovial.
