Eck's Saloon, located in Lakewood, is quite close to Denver and is a major local music magnet. Every night the club has something different to offer. Each day of the week is dedicated to a local band and events like ladies night, karaoke nights, free food night and the like are regular here. If the live-music isn't enough for you, there are over 40 TV screens, 8 pool tables, foosball, dartboards, air hockey and arcade games to keep you entertained. Voted as the best local bar, Eck's Saloon is definitely worth a visit for the the varied range of local live-band performances it hosts.
For some of the best blues talent and roots rock in town, visit Ziggie's Saloon. This tiny north-Denver venue hosts top local and regional talent seven days a week. The cover charge is minimal, the atmosphere is no-frills, and the music plays for a typically standing room-only crowd. Stop by for open stage acoustic jams on Sunday afternoons. If music is not your thing, wait in line to shoot pool on one of the saloon's pool tables.
The weekend mariachi band and outdoor dining are the best aspects of a meal at El Noa Noa, but not because the food is so-so, but because it is so standard. The large open dining room moves with a constant frenzy and tends to be loud, especially if a band takes the stage. The standards are all here, including burritos, enchiladas and tacos. Or for something different opt for the fried trout in garlic sauce, or the stuffed shrimp.
The underground nightclub at Larimer Square is an attempt by the owners Terry Martin and Michael Olsen to create an "atmospheric parlor". Exposed rocks and concrete give a very raw feeling to this club that has been woven with fabric and colors to give it an easy going appeal. Interesting are their rest rooms that play tracks from movies. A local favorite, the place tends to get crowded over the weekends.
When it comes to socializing with friends, catching up on old times, or generally hanging-out with close pals, Tryst Lounge is second to none. Each evening the club devotes itself to a separate theme such as hip-hop and girls night. Drinks are ever available. The service is courteous and quick. Only red herring being when the place gets crowded, the dance-floor gets cramped for space. Yet, all in all, this Tryst can't go wrong (pun intended).
A hot spot for singles, Crocs brims with energy. On the weekends, it clears out the tables in the backroom for dancing. A DJ spins everything from techno sounds to '80s greats. The joint was one of the first in the area to have the exposed brick wall loft look, and the mammoth crocodile hanging above the bar makes for an interesting drinking topic. The menu offers Mexican fare such as burritos and tortas as well as special dishes like Shrimp Diablo and Cilantro-Jalapeno Cream Pasta. There are burgers and sandwiches too. The full bar includes microbrews.
A unique concept bar, Mario's Double Daughter's Salotto, is a must visit Denver destination. A prime location for local artists to showcase and creative community to do some networking in style. Lit with dim red and blue lights, eccentric artwork adorning the walls and whimsical furniture, the place is an unusual combination of live-music space and cocktail lounge. Try drinks which are as unique as their names are, the Fall of Man, Six-Toed Kitten or their award winning drink, Succo Vafanculo di Mario. An unusually memorable night-out is guaranteed!
Under the foundations of Denver's landmark Daniels and Fisher tower (Denver's very own Campanile) dwells a sultry, sexy underbelly: Lannie's Clocktower! Located in the Denver theater district, Lannie's provides its patrons with colorful comedy, sensual burlesque performances and variety acts. Sip on its large array of cocktails or nibble on appetizers as you indulge in this venue's eclectic talent and revel in the fact that you've unearthed one of the town's best kept secrets!
This famed live music venue hosted some illustrious names in the past, including The Doors and Cream. It remains one of Denver's premier alternative music stages and hosts fantastic local acts. Friday and Saturday nights are the best for gigs, with many national acts passing through; weekdays are more themed, with ladies night on Thursday and, sometimes, the stage is the perfect foil for a raucous evening of karaoke. Check the website for details of upcoming events.
El Chapultepec, at first glance, is just another aging dive bar serving up traditional Mexican tastes on paper plates in downtown. But even though the great green chili draws plenty of patrons, it is the jazz performances that hold prominence in this place. Local as well as some national legends crowd into the small dining room filled with old vinyl booths and play just about every night of the year. Since the LoDo revitalization, this has become a trendy nightspot, so expect a big crowd.
Lucky Strike Lanes is located on the 3rd level of The Pavillions shopping center and near the 16th Street Mall. By day, Lucky Strike is a traditional, upscale bowling alley and pool hall. But by night, it's a blacklit, music filled club complete with drinks, snacks and "cosmic bowling." Until 9p, everyone is allowed in, but afterwards the lanes are 21 and up, and reserving lanes can be quite challenging without party reservations. Luckily, there is still plenty to do while waiting to bowl. Lucky Strike Lanes is one of the most unique nightlife experiences in Denver and all it takes is one night of cosmic bowling to see why. -Sabrina Zirakzadeh
Housed inside Denver Pavilions, Jazz at Jack's is Denver's premier entertainment venue for live jazz. With a decor drenched predominantly in hues of red, the lighting is surreal while the acoustics are a class apart from the rest you've ever heard. On non-music nights, this fully-functional and versatile venue can also be hired for private parties, luncheons, wedding receptions and seminars where the resident-crew do an efficient job with planning the details. Their Happy Hour food menus serve some scrumptious portions chicken, fries, cheesecakes and beverages which makes it yet another reason to head here.
