    Couture and Haute dining have a new name in Dartmouth: Nectar Social House. This bar and restaurant offers a scintillating and stimulating experience to those who like to dine in style, but not burn a hole in the wallet. The elegantly designed eatery also has a lounge area where you can gingerly sip the intoxicating house cocktails, martinis, and wines offered here. The food is a rich mix of seafood and contemporary meat and vegetable dishes. You can try their delicious and juicy Lobster Crepes, Lobster Phyllo or Seared Halibut, which are all local delicacies sprinkled with international influences. Vegetarians will also find something worthwhile here, but there aren't too many veggie options so you will have to choose from a handful.

    Julien's Patisserie Bakery and Cafe is an authentic French bakery, which offers a variety of mouth-watering pastries and cakes which are touted as the best in the city.     The Company House opened in January 2009 and has already gained an impetus in the live music entertainment scene in the North End area of Halifax. With a capacity of 150 people, this venue is the place to visit if you want to check out performances by well-known bands, upcoming local musicians, or even top notch North American bands. Owned and managed by Mary-Ann Daye, this place is a haven for all music enthusiasts in the city. The Company House is open from Wednesdays to Saturday from 2p onwards. This place also serves herbal tea and fair trade coffee in the afternoons, and a variety of drinks in the evenings.     No matter where you sit, inside or out, upstairs or down it's bright and cheerful at Salty's Restaurant, and the views are memorable. Housed in a beautifully renovated building that juts out into the harbor, Salty's fresh-air patio is open from May-September. The downstairs menu features lighter meals, like the vegetarian wrap, a mixture of smoked Gouda, lettuce, tomato and vegetables served with a house salad. Upstairs, the fare is a bit lusher. The chicken supreme filled with spinach and cheese, swordfish or shark steaks (when available), and poached or broiled Atlantic salmon. The restaurant opens at 11:30a daily.

    Escargot is not really considered seafood in Halifax, and this restaurant in the Citadel Hotel, is one of a few that offers the delicious little mollusks. Those seeking lighter fare will be pleasantly surprised by the lobster salad which contains lobster meat and fresh sliced mango atop exotic greens. Heartier eaters will find lamb Evangeline a treat which is essentially a boneless rack of lamb on a bed of spinach. The room at botaniCa Restaurant and Lounge sports tablecloths with warm earth tones under subdued lighting. Comfort is the key here and the serving staff is alert and friendly.

    Here is a great little place for a meal, from breakfast to dinner. The decor invites exploration and you'll be hopping up from the table now and then for a closer look at the drums, or perhaps or the beautiful suit for sale and hanging in the corner. The food is delicious African cuisine that will transport you straight to the deserts of the continent even while in the chilly weather of Canada. Try the curried chicken and beef stew or, for the vegetarians, plantain and rice. Portions are generous and the fire from the hot sauce can be quenched with a bit of mango juice if you go overboard.

    The Split Crow, a popular pub with a good selection of beer and great food, has been on the go for more than a quarter of a century, though it was located at first on Walter Streets.
