Recently relocated inside the Chapman Cultural Center, Spartanburg Science Center is a great non-profit organization that promotes science education to the local community. The science center has a variety of programs offered to children of all ages throughout the year, as well as winter and summer camps. Although the center is a member-driven organization, it is open to the public for a small fee.
Located in the Chapman Cultural Center, the Spartanburg Art Museum is a great artistic outlet for both visitors and locals. With rotating exhibits ranging from a variety of mediums like sculpture, pop art, watercolors and antique restoration, the museum has something for every art enthusiast. For both children and adults, the museum offers educational programs to hone your artistic talents in drawing, pottery, sculpture, jewelry making, basket-weaving and stained glass. Art camps are also a great way to get children involved and inspired by local artists.
The Chapman Cultural Center is a vital part of the Spartanburg community. The Center provides ample space for arts to flourish. The David Reid Theatre, Black Box Theatre and the Spartanburg Dance Center have the stage and the seating for performing arts events that can range from theater productions to modern dance. The Spartanburg Art Museum Art Gallery, the Artists' Guild Gallery and Student Galleries hang art from both local and visiting artists. The Spartanburg Science Center and the Spartanburg Art Museum Art Studio hold a number of classes, some of which are available to adults.
The Artists' Guild Gallery is in the Chapman Cultural Center. There are monthly art exhibits, some of which showcase art available for purchase. This gallery features art in a variety of forms, from contemporary and fine art to sculptures and photography.
Operating since the early 1960s, the Regional History Museum is a great place to get lost in the rich history of this growing but quaint South Carolina town. A distinctive range of artifacts are on display at this classy location. Recently relocated to the Chapman Cultural Center, Spartanburg County Regional History Museum hosts exhibitions regularly. The museum also sponsors and hosts many special events for the community and its members so check the website for up-to-date information.
Focusing on the history of Spartanburg County, this museum contains numerous permanent collections including exhibits on Indians, an exhibit on Spanish explorer Juan Pardo, and exhibits on wars from the Revolution through World War II.
