    Formed in 1995, the Santa Cruz-based rockabilly outfit The Chop Tops combines its punk, surf and pyschobilly influences to create a brand of upbeat rebel music it calls "Revved-Up Rockabilly." Lead singer and stand-up drummer Sinner formed the band after playing in several San Francisco acts and deciding that rockabilly came most naturally to him. Along with a single guitarist and a stand-up bassist, Sinner has managed to turn The Chop Tops into a longstanding act that has headlined its own national tours and shared the stage with artists such as the Dead Kennedys, John Lee Hooker and Chuck Berry. Since the release of its debut album, Revved-Up Rockabilly in 1997, the band has released five other studio albums including its 2010 effort, Deadly Love.

    When listening to music created by the Denver, CO based band Tennis, images are conjured of sail boats, sun burns, white sand beaches and hammocks. The husband and wife's tunes have such a beach friendly sound that it's hard to think the group comes from such a landlocked city like Denver. The duo did spend eight months sailing around the Eastern Seaboard, though, so all of the inadvertent ocean references found in the group's music isn't unfounded. Tennis caught the attention of several critics in 2010 after it released a few singles as well as an EP and as the band's notoriety continues to grow, it will undoubtedly prove to be an interesting electronically infused surf rock act to track.

    Fronted by Kid Congo Powers (born Brian Tristan), Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds is the latest project from Powers, best known for his work with legendary punk band The Cramps as well as with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds stemmed from a collaboration with New York City guitarist Jack Martin and has found a good amount of acclaim for its experimental garage rock with impressive production values and quirky lyrics.
