    »The Bunganut Pig

Nestled in the quiet setting of Carter's Court, this cozy Bunganut Pig club serves classic British "pub grub" and features live music nightly. A warm and friendly wait staff and pleasant atmosphere create a perfect setting to relax over a stout and a juicy steak. But don't get too relaxed, the music starts in the evening each night, and there is very little quiet time after that. Come early, and enjoy a good meal. Don't forget to ask your server to tell you the "Pig Story."

    »The Bluebird Cafe

Ever heard of Garth Brooks? That's right, his first performance was at the Bluebird. And it is this mystique that calls young singers and songwriters looking for their chance at stardom. Monday nights are open-mike, so take your chances with the unknown acts. This is a haven for the struggling artist and the established country star, making it a Nashville tradition for both locals and tourists.

    »Jonathan's Grille

Jonathan's has all of the feel of an established chain restaurant, plus all of the perks of a privately-owned sports bar. The menu offers a huge variety of starters, salads and entrées including everything from quesadillas, to tilapia, to filet mignon, as well as an excellent selection of delicious deep-dish style pizzas with a unique assortment of toppings. Late night specials and happy hours are listed on the restaurant's website and offer customers additional savings. The tables at Jonathan's are a little larger than those found at most chain restaurants—that little bit of extra elbow room makes for a much more comfortable dining experience. Depending on the night, guests might also enjoy live music, karaoke or a bar-side trivia game. Lynn-nore Chittom

    »Sam & Zoe's

Java heaven is the best way to describe this understated espresso shop called Sam And Zoe's. Inside the old house off Branford Avenue you will find wonderful coffees, bagels, smoothies, sandwiches and pastries. Poetry readings on Wednesday nights and live music on Fridays and Saturdays create a 1960s feel. Most performers are little-known local talent, but there are surprises on the small stage from time to time. This is Nashville, after all.

    »The Basement

Music is the only thing that matters at The Basement. The improvised decor, rough unfinished look is ample proof of that. Music-lovers can catch the best live music in town here by the various bands of different genres. The place is so sought after that its entertainment schedule is booked for months together at times. The best thing about The Basement is that one can enjoy music in a smoke-free atmosphere as the place is strictly non-smoking. A smoking area is provided on an outdoor patio. »Springwater Supper Club & Lounge

Possibly the city's oldest watering hole, Springwater Supper Club & Lounge has been here so long that the current owner does not even know when it was first built. Just be glad it was, because there's no place like it in town. Nothing fancy about the interior, which consists of a large room with a good stage and bar. The crowd is interesting most nights, but not nearly as interesting as the music. Bands, from country to punk rock, take the stage every weekend. There is never a cover charge nor a dull moment here.

    »Idle Hour Tavern

Country Music stars Travis Tritt and Lorrie Morgan have visited this Idle Hour Tavern, along with Lee Roy Purnell and David Lee Murphy. What brings them here? Tradition. For decades Dianne and Bobby Herald have hosted up-and-coming artists in what they call "a little old beer bar." Sure, they serve beer, but they also serve some of the best live country music in Nashville. Top artists still come by to perform for the packed house, and they usually stick around to toss back a cold one. Domestic beer is super cheap, and chips and pizza are served all night.

    »Exit/In

The Exit has long been the source of live entertainment in the Elliston Square area, but over the course of its history it has suffered neglect. It is amazing that a club that was featured in movies and books, and even Rolling Stone magazine, could fall into such disrepair. Unwilling to see the club close down, Ned Horton stepped in and took over ownership. Today, after much renovation, including a new sound and lighting system, Horton has rebuilt the Exit's reputation as a premier music venue. Changing the name to Exit/In and booking a more eclectic mix of artists, Horton brought this little club, as well as the entire Elliston Square area, back to life.
