Home to the renowned Louisiana Live Performances, Sliman Theater for the Performing Arts is an important landmark in town. Formerly known as Evangeline Theater, it was donated to the town by the Sliman family, in whose honor the venue is named. Currently owned and managed by the City's Parks & Recreation Department, this event venue dates back to the late 19th Century and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. With a capacity to hold 220 patrons, Sliman Theater hosts variety of cultural and entertaining events throughout the year. You can also rent the space for private events and functions. Now known as "The Sliman Theatre for the Performing Arts," the 600-seat Art Deco-style Evangeline Theatre opened as a movie theatre in 1930 and closed in 1960. The restored theatre is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to the Louisiana Crossroads concert series.
