»Finding Gräfenberg

March 14, 2015 8:00 PM

Chances are you're unfamiliar with human sexuality pioneer Dr. Ernest Gräfenberg, but you've almost definitely heard of his most famous discovery: the "G Spot." Inspired by that game-changing notion, which posited that there is no spot on the female body from which sexual desire cannot be aroused, the atmospheric drama "finding gräfenberg" explores the fraught dynamics of sex, power and politics in the workplace. In this intimate, unapologetically honest production at Hairpin Arts Center, Chicago theater company trip. takes you on an atmospheric journey from the office to a bar and into the bedroom, removing spectacle and pretension for an emotional experience that blurs the lines between audience and performer.

»Andrew Lloyd Webbers Das Phantom Der Oper

July 18, 2015 8:00 PM

Based on the novel Le Fantôme de l'Opéra by Gaston Leroux, Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera is a musical theater production that has delighted audiences ever since it opened in 1986 in London's West End. Set in 19th-century Paris, the show follows the story of chorus girl Christine Daaé and the mysterious phantom, a disfigured musical genius living in the bowels of the Paris Opera House. While tutoring her on her vocals, the Phantom becomes dangerously obsessed with Christine, and as he begins to make his presence known, the growing tension within the opera house culminates in the Phantom and Christine meeting face to face. The recipient of both the Tony Award and Olivier Award for Best Musical, the show is Broadway's longest-running musical.

»Madama Butterfly

March 22, 2015 2:00 PM

Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" is one of the most beautiful -- and one of the most tragic -- operas ever staged. It's the story of an innocent young geisha who catches the eye of an American Naval officer and becomes his temporary "wife," only to be left behind when he returns to the U.S. What begins as a beautiful love story becomes a heartbreaking tragedy when the abandoned bride must make an agonizing choice. Full of sumptuous music interwoven with Japanese motifs, "Madama Butterfly" offers famous arias and joyous moments that served as the basis for the hit musical "Miss Saigon". See this breathtaking work as Verismo Opera brings it to the historic Hillside Club.
