»The New Mastersounds With The Earful

    October 02, 2014 8:00 PM

Even though the funk genre as a whole has fallen into a fairly fatigued state, with a good deal of bands that associate themselves to the style of music pandering into cliche territory, there are a few select bands out there keeping funk alive with innovation and a modern approach to song composition. English four-piece The New Mastersounds is one such group. Founded in 1999, the band has managed to gain recognition amid the funk scene with a lively, entirely instrumental sound that showcases snappy drumming, thumpy bass lines and astute organ solos. While The New Mastersounds might not gain widespread popularity or mainstream radio airplay, it is nevertheless a group that's dedicated to keeping the funk genre alive during a time when the music style's tides have almost ebbed into oblivion.

    »George Thorogood and The Destroyers

    October 02, 2014 8:00 PM

George Thorogood is a guitarist who is probably best known for his hit song "Bad to the Bone" as well as for his covers of Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love" and Hank Williams' "Move it on Over." Born and raised in Delaware, growing up Thorogood had two passions: music and baseball. He was quite good at the latter--so good, in fact, that his band, The Destroyers, forced him to quit baseball to focus solely on music. The dedication paid off when George Thorogood and the Destroyers released their eponymously-titled debut album in 1977. The LP managed to catch some buzz and soon the band had built a national fan base that was extremely keen on the group's characteristic boogie rock sound. Though Thorogood's fame has faded significantly since his glory days in the late-1970s and 1980s, he still releases music and tours, playing to his enduring fan base of aging music aficionados.

    »Brett Dennen

    October 03, 2014 8:00 PM

The slightly awkward, red haired and freckled singer/songwriter Brett Dennen often surprises audiences with his warm, folk-inflected voice and catchy guitar picking. Dennen began writing songs in 2004 as a camp counselor for kids, but soon realized that music was a career he wanted to pursue. Eventually his soft-rock ballads caught the attention of his contemporaries and Dennen was invited to open for the likes of John Mayer and Jason Mraz. After he secured multiple songs on popular television shows, Dennen had established enough of a reputation to headline prominent venues around the country.

    »The Producers

    October 03, 2014 7:30 PM

Mel Brooks' outrageous musical comedy "The Producers" is the story of broke Broadway producer Max Bialystock and his accountant, Leo Bloom. Desperate for cash, the two schemers hatch a plan to produce a musical that is a sure failure. The show'll close immediately, then they'll cut and run with the unspent production money. What could possibly go wrong? Turns out, their "big flop" ends up as a smash hit, that's what. Based on the classic 1968 film, and featuring the hilarious show-within-a-show, "Springtime for Hitler", "The Producers" skewers the over-the-top absurdities of musical theater while delivering a heartfelt tale of the true friendship that develops between two would-be con artists. At Jesters Dinner Theatre you can watch this classic musical while enjoying a delicious dinner. Menu options are listed in the description.
