A favorite breakfast stop for local Boeing and construction workers, the Mukilteo Speedway Café’s adorable entryway features a small breakfast bar with stools and a bakery case filled with homemade pies, cakes, and parfaits—and that’s just the entryway. The main dining room is nicely decorated with historical photos of the Mukilteo area. The meals served here are of the highest quality and are in no way reminiscent of the greasy slop served up by IHOP and Denny’s. The Mukilteo Speedway Café is only open for breakfast and lunch, so if you’re in the area early in the day, it’s worth stopping by.
Enjoy some great food at Wild Vine Bistro. The food served here is American and Italian. You can also order some really good burgers. The service is prompt and efficient. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu, especially about the wine list. Ask them for suggestion and you will have a really good pairing.
The sign and entrance to Z’s Burgers in Mukilteo can be a little confusing. For starters, there is the “Z’s Burgers” sign over one door in a strip mall and another sign in a totally different font and style that reads “A Taste of Americana” above the next door over. Whatever door you choose, you’ll find yourself inside a small burger joint with classic Americana memorabilia adorning the walls. At the counter you’ll find standard burger offerings as well as an excellent selection of gourmet specialties as well as local favorites, including the 747 Burger made with flame broiled, horizontally sliced hot dogs!
Amici Bistro is a very small, family-owned Italian restaurant in quaint Mukilteo. The décor is cozy, inviting, and candle-lit, and the service is friendly and warm. In one corner of the restaurant is a small bar, and in the summertime there is outside seating at cute little bistro tables. The food itself is standard Italian restaurant fare, not much different than you’d find at other Italian restaurants, although the prices are quite off-putting. And while the portions are large, it can be a bit hard to stomach unreasonable prices for a plate of Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Amici Bistro is easy on the eyes, but tough on the wallet. - Katie Kinney
Charles at Smuggler's Cove is an upscale (read: expensive) French restaurant in a bluff-topping brick mansion built by a rum-runner during the days of prohibition. The former residence is now divided into a single dining room on the main floor and two on the second. Every corner of every room exudes a soft, romantic ambiance, with peachy walls, fine antique furniture, and architectural elements. It is precisely these romantic qualities that divert your attention away from the so-so food offerings. The bouillabaisse comes out overdone, and the French Onion soup is mysteriously shy on onions. But if you're looking for a mood-setting, romantic evening, order a nice bottle of wine from their extensive list and enjoy your surroundings. - Katie Kinney

John's Grill is a locally owned American seafood and steakhouse. The owner of the restaurant was the head chef for a number of years in some of Seattle's most well-established and expensive dining establishments. The food at John's Grill is perfect and simple, just what you would expect for a great steakhouse. The steaks are juicy and cooked to perfection without a lot of unnecessary extras taking away from the meat's flavor. The service is great with attentive, but non-intrusive wait staff. One warning though, John's has a $4.50 surcharge to split a meal. - Katie Kinney
