    An Iliad

Long before it was a book or even a poem, "The Iliad" was a rollicking, raunchy and altogether enthralling tale that people couldn't get out of their heads. Acclaimed Cincinnati actor Bruce Cromer has recaptured the spirit of the early epic in "An Iliad", a one-man show with musical accompaniment. In this celebration of storytelling, Cromer brings to life the struggle between Achilles and Hector over the beautiful Helen, and the resulting battle and fall of Troy. In this lean, muscular performance, Cromer conjures the fury of the gods as he explores mankind's attraction to violence, destruction and chaos.

    Contemporary Dance Theater: Zvidance's Dabke
    Jarson-Kaplan TheaterOctober 31, 2014 8:30 PM
    650 Walnut Street
    Cincinnati, OH 45202
Contemporary Dance Theater kicks off its new season with NYC's ZviDance, showcasing artistic director Zvi Gotheiner's jubilant new work "Dabke". Inspired by Zvi's childhood on a kibbutz, "Dabke" energetically combines rich Israeli and Arabic folk dance and music. The dabke is traditionally performed by men at weddings and celebrations, and is a metaphorical representation of solidarity, visualized through the dancers' linked hands and shoulders. Dancers stomp the ground in complex alternating rhythms, asserting their connection with the land as Gotheiner's work tells a story of community and of the deeply rooted impulses that prompt people of all cultures to dance.

Blues and rock jammers Gov't Mule have been playing their soulful extended blues since 1994. The New York based group began originally as an Allman Brothers side project of Warren Haynes and Allen Woody. When the Allman Brothers slowed in producing new material, the duo recruited Matt Abts on drums and began focusing solely on Gov't Mule. Now they are a familiar sight on the playbill of many major music festivals across the country, and are known for lots of guest performances from musical cohorts they're befriended along their journey.

Murs, the stage name of Nick Carter, is a hip-hop artist from Los Angeles. At the beginning of his career, Murs stuck to the idea of releasing music with the rap groups such as Living Legends. It was not until 2003 that Murs released his first solo album, appropriate titled The End of the Beginning. Under the name Felt, Murs took a more experimental approach on his second solo album, Murs 3:16, that demonstrated the more thought provoking rap music. He released Sweet Lord, his second record after signing with Warner Bros. in 2006, as a free album for his fans. Beyond rap music, Murs is a member of the hip hop/rock group The Invincibles, that made its debut at Coachella in 2008 with an obvious influence from punk music.
