Ned Brown Forest Preserve is a must visit for some family-friendly recreation. It is spread over 3700 acres (1500 hectares) and is one of the best-used natural preserves in the state of Illinois. Located within is the National Natural Landmark, Busse Woods. Named after the former mayor of Chicago, Fred A. Busse, it offers visitors with an array of leisure activities. Discover its flora and fauna, go fishing or elk spotting, enjoy a lakeside picnic or don't miss out on a bicycle ride along the 10.8-mile (17-kilometer) Busse Woods Trail.

The park incorporates lots of features that give many outdoor opportunities for adults and children alike. Eaton Field Park also includes a ball field, basketball court, soccer field and many other amenities that offer many opportunities for play.
Arlington International Race Course is one of the best race courses in the world. Millions of people come every August to watch the Arlington Million Race, which has recently become a part of World Series Racing Championship. Located just about 4 miles from O'Hare International, Dam No. 4 Woods, along with preserves such as Chippewa Woods and Catherine Chevalier Woods, is supported by the fertile banks of River Des Plaines. Dam No. 4 Woods separates the villages of Schiller Park and Harwood Heights with a floodplain thicket, that interestingly, stops flooding in the neighboring communities. As such, the preserve is home to many birds and animal species such as deer, beavers, squirrels and lots more. Dam No. 4 Woods feature some picnic spots and marked as well as unmarked trails, some of which even include riverside hikes.
