»Born Of Osiris - Tomorrow We Die Alive Tour

    October 21, 2014 6:00 PM

Born of Osiris is a deathcore band from Chicago that was founded in 2003. Employing an eclectic blend of metal genres in its music, as well as an original mix of droopy analogue synths and programmed electronics, Born of Osiris has built a solid reputation for itself amongst the American heavy metal circuit. The group's first album, 2009's A Higher Place, was referred to as a breath of fresh air for hard rock and the group was lauded for it's ability to buck the norms and employ typically un-metal sonic elements and bring them into a cohesive whole with seemingly flippant abandon.

»Sargent House Presents: Ttng w/ Special Guests Emma Ruth Rundle & Mylets

    October 22, 2014 8:00 PM

Emma Ruth Rundle is a singer/songwriter and musician who is known for experimenting with droning electronic textures and folk music. Though she rose to recognition for her work as the guitarist of Red Sparowes and the vocalist and guitarist of Marriages and The Nocturnes, she struck her solo career with the release of her debut record Electric Guitar One, in 2014. The EP exposed her ambient folk for the first time and established her as an artist in her own right. Rundle dropped her first full-length LP, titled Some Heavy Ocean, later the same year and subsequently captured an international audience with her experimental compositions and gentle vocals.

    »La Ley

    October 23, 2014 7:00 PM

La Ley is an alternative pop rock band that emerged out of Santiago, Chile in 1987. Though the group's ill-conceived first record was a commercial failure, the band quickly rebounded with 1990's Doble Opuesto, which captured a widespread Latin American audience with its dark tone and experimental textures. As the band built a solid catalog of records throughout the 1990s, tensions within the lineup peaked, resulting in the departure of more than half of its members. La Ley recovered with a fresh lineup and a more pop rock oriented sound. Though the band's new style didn't suit much of its existing following, La Ley went on to earn massive international attention with its two consecutive albums, 2000's Uno and 2003's Libertad, collecting a total of one Grammy and two Latin Grammy's for both records combined. Despite the acclaim, La Ley split up in 2005 but eventually reunited in 2013 with founders Mauricio Clavaria and Beto Cuevas at the helm.

    »The Taming Of The Shrew

    October 23, 2014 7:30 PM

The Taming of the Shrew is a comedy by English playwright William Shakespeare, and has been frequently adapted for film and stage despite being one of the Bard's most controversial plays. The plot follows the free-spirited "shrew" Katherina whose notorious temper has kept men from seeking her hand in marriage. However, one man, Petruchio, steps up to marry Katherina and begins the long process of "training" his new bride through the use of reverse psychology, effectively molding her, as a result, into an ideal wife by the end of the play. Despite being cited by many critics (even during the time in which it was written) as being overly misogynistic, others dismiss the play's overt misogyny as being neutralized by its obvious farcical nature, and could in fact be looked at as a caricature of misogyny--highlighting the shallowness and vulgarity of the characters as opposed to presenting them in a manner to be emulated.
