    »Henhouse Prowlers

    July 25, 2014 10:00 PM

Though Chicago might seem like an odd place for a bluegrass outfit to establish itself, the band Henhouse Prowlers has managed to do it and build a reputation for itself as one of the more talented forward-thinking bluegrass groups in the United States. With an ardent respect for the pioneers that laid the groundwork for the bluegrass genre, Henhouse Prowlers nod to folk's forefathers as well as incorporating more modern influences to add a bit of spice to the band's unique sound. The band received a good amount of attention in 2009 for its album A Dark Rumor--an LP that perfectly encapsulated the group's characteristic approach to bluegrass--and as the group continues to push the boundaries of its sound, it will undoubtedly continue to prove itself as a band to watch.

    »Barenaked Ladies

    August 02, 2014

The Canadian alternative rock band Barenaked Ladies is primarily known for writing lighthearted songs that poke fun at the trivial aspects of life. The group skyrocketed to in 1998 with the album Stunt, an album that produced several catchy tunes like "One Week," "Never is Enough" and "Its All Been Done." Though founding member and lead singer Steve Page left the band in 2009, the group still soldiers on and continues to bring its comedic concerts to masses around North America.

Known as the front man to alt-country band The Gourds, Kev Russell a.k.a. Shinyribs is his solo project, an outlet for a large reserve of solo material he's been working on. »Lake Street Dive

    August 16, 2014

Formed upon a chance pairing in class at Boston’s New England Conservatory, the four members of Lake Street Dive were assigned to form a group that played "free country" by the end of the class period; the teacher even provided them with the name Lake Street Dive. While the band members realized "free country" wasn't their strong suit, they also realized that there was an evident chemistry between them all and so they continued the band outside of class. After playing around with different musical styles, the band settled on a fusion between easy listening jazz and sweet indie pop. Since forming in 2006, Lake Street Dive has toured across the country and impressed audiences at every stop.
