This spectacular event is a highlight of the holiday season. Each year the Calgary Zoo is lit up with over one million twinkling lights in a variety of bright displays. Families love to wander through Candy Cane Lane and dazzle at the lights of the season. There are fire pits and hot chocolate to cut the winter chill as well as seasonal music and a Snow Zone for the kids. Enjoy craft shopping at Cranberry Market while the little ones whisper in Santa's ear. Closed Christmas day.
For Calgary families, the Christmas season would not be complete without a pilgrimage to the Lions Club Festival of Lights. Each year The Lions Club, with the help of a variety of other sponsors, adorn the east side of the Confederation Golf Course with thousands of colorful lights arranged in Christmas themes. There are waving Santa Clauses, singing angels, dozens of flashing Christmas trees and holiday greetings spelled out in a variety of languages. Kids love the display, and it makes for a charming evening excursion.
This spectacular holiday light display is the largest of its kind in Western Canada. Bundle up the family and walk through the Christmas-themed sculptures that encompass more than 120,000 individual light bulbs. Many of the displays are animated and are dazzling for young and old alike. Make sure to pause for a cup of hot chocolate by the fire pits while local singers serenade you with Christmas music. This perfect family outing is absolutely free, though donations are welcome. Airdrie is a 15 minute drive north of Calgary.
