    »Mountain Standard Time

    October 01, 2014 9:00 PM

Although bluegrass music is typically defined by its layered acoustic instrumentation and traditional approach, Mountain Standard Time leans much more toward the progressive side of the genre, alongside popular groups such as Yonder Mountain String Band and The String Cheese Incident. Beyond the standard mandolin, banjo and acoustic guitar setup, the Colorado-based six-piece also utilizes electric bass, drums, horns and lots of percussion to help create its jam rock-influenced spin on the classic American genre. Thanks to Mountain Standard Time's ability to play long sets of dance-friendly bluegrass fusion, the group has become popular at notable jam rock festivals throughout the United States.

    »Abk (Anybody Killa)

    October 03, 2014 5:00 PM

Anybody Killa, often abbreviated as Abk, is a Native American rapper from Detroit. Abk's middle finger was cut off at a car factory while performing with his old group Krazy Klan. He decided to split from the group and go solo in 2000 with Rain From The Sun. Blending elements of his ancestors' storytelling skills and horror film references in songs like "Trail of Tears" and "Guilletine pt.2," Abk's voice is distinct because of his obvious lisp. Like the true juggalo that he is, Abk paints his face black, white and red, and wears a giant white bandanna that covers most of his forehead and brow.

    »Spring Awakening

    October 03, 2014 7:30 PM

The coming-of-age rock opera Spring Awakening made its off-Broadway New York debut in 2006. Famed for tackling subjects of teenage sexuality, abuse, suicide and youth tumult with a fearless voice, the show is based on the original German play by Frank Wedekind from the turn of the century. The trials of youth are explored with utter candor in this riveting exploration of a group of adolescents trying to become their own people in the face of immense pressure from the adult world. Wedekind's original play has been mined time and time again for its highly realistic treatment of the youth experience, this time with the modern-day verve of Broadway. Now a cult classic, Spring Awakening has become world-renowned through various tours and international productions, garnering 3 Tony awards and massive critical acclaim.
